Gopalganj district police executed a high-stakes interception late Thursday, apprehending a male-female duo smuggling 95 grams of heroin packed into 135 tiny pouches. The dramatic arrest happened at Bahorahat Bridge during an anti-smuggling vehicle inspection drive by Manjhagarh station teams.

The black Apache riders panicked at the sight of police, accelerating away in a bid to escape. Determined officers pursued and overpowered them promptly. The heroin, concealed in a backpack, was recovered along with a cellphone and some money, with a seizure memo prepared on-site.

The accused, 43-year-old Harkesh Singh of Karsaghat and Roshan Tara of Sarea Ward 2, both Gopalganj residents, failed to justify their possession during questioning. Officials suspect deeper ties to an organized drug racket.

Speaking on Friday, Sadar SDPO-2 Rajesh Kumar detailed how routine vigilance led to the breakthrough. Cases under NDPS Act provisions are filed, with probes intensifying to trace suppliers and associates.

Such operations highlight the persistent threat of drug peddling in Bihar’s border regions, where Gopalganj’s proximity to Nepal fuels trafficking. Enhanced patrols and intelligence gathering promise more such successes ahead.
