Breaking new ground in Indian music, Shibani Kashyap unveiled her high-octane hip-hop single ‘Sirfira’ this Tuesday, targeting the vibrant Gen Z audience. The track marks her enthusiastic embrace of hip-hop, a style she’s long championed.
Speaking candidly, Shibani shared, ‘The younger generation has its own lingo and lifestyle. To connect with them, my music needed to reflect that energy. Hip-hop was the perfect fit for me.’
The song boasts features from Mumbai’s underground rap elite: Yedana, Siroi, Enix, Neji on verses, and Tash on stellar beatboxing. Filmed in a rugged auto workshop, the video ditches glamour for a raw, ‘sirfira’ aesthetic that screams authenticity and madness.
Far from romantic ballads, ‘Sirfira’ champions defiance and adventure. Shibani elaborated, ‘It’s about that inner rebel in all of us, urging us to defy limits and chase revolutionary paths beyond convention.’
She thanked longtime pal Mika Singh for backing the release. ‘Mika’s friendship and faith in my artistry mean the world; he’s been my rock forever.’
Shibani’s journey is dotted with daring choices. ‘I introduced autotune and coding effects first in ‘Sajna Aa Bhi Ja’ here in India,’ she recalled, ‘sparking debates but also acclaim.’ ‘Sirfira’ upholds this legacy of boundary-breaking creativity, solidifying her as a trailblazer in the industry.
