The battle lines are drawn in Delhi politics as AAP ramps up pressure on the BJP government over its stalled Rs 2500 monthly assistance scheme for women. Leader of Opposition Atishi led the charge, branding the much-hyped ‘Modi Guarantee’ a flop ahead of the Delhi Assembly’s special session.
Recalling the January 2025 announcement, Atishi noted the promise was reiterated on Women’s Day 2025 for direct transfers starting immediately. But two Women’s Days later—2025 and 2026—no funds have materialized, leaving thousands of Delhi women in the lurch.
‘BJP cheated Delhi women and is now repeating the gimmick in West Bengal,’ she alleged. Women across the city are vocal, demanding answers on their pending aid. Atishi didn’t stop there, criticizing the erosion of free bus rides and Mohalla Clinic services.
What was once hassle-free transport now involves endless lines for pink cards. Mohalla Clinics, meant to bring healthcare to doorsteps, are under strain, pushing women to private facilities. These failures compound the financial distress from the unmet promise.
Sanjeev Jha, another AAP voice, called the Assembly misuse for political gains. True empowerment demands economic aid over mere bills, he argued, pointing to halted pensions for vulnerable widows and seniors.
MLA Kuldeep Kumar drew parallels: ‘Rs 3000 promises in Bengal, but silence on Delhi’s Rs 2500?’ AAP insists the special session must address timelines for transfers. This escalating spat reveals deep fissures in Delhi’s governance, with women’s welfare at the epicenter.
