In a major breakthrough against explosive threats, the NIA arrested Ahidul Islam Molla, a key figure in the March bomb blast in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas. The explosion in South Bamunia village not only killed one person but also severely injured three, exposing a sinister bomb-making operation gone awry.

Molla, a resident of Bijoyganj Bazar, was implicated through forensic evidence and intelligence leads showing his direct involvement in crafting the devices and destroying traces post-incident. The NIA revealed that the bombs detonated during preparation, claiming a conspirator’s life on the spot.

State police had already secured one arrest, but NIA’s specialized investigation peeled back layers of the conspiracy. ‘The probe is ongoing to nab remaining associates,’ the agency stated, signaling more arrests on the horizon.

Shifting focus to Bihar, NIA escalated its arms trafficking crackdown by charging Kundan Kumar in a Muzaffarpur case. The Patna court filing marks him as the sixth accused, linked to smuggling high-caliber weapons from Nagaland to arm Maoists and gangsters.

Triggered by a police raid yielding an AK-47, the investigation exposed a well-oiled network. Kumar’s November arrest and subsequent charges under stringent laws like UAPA reflect NIA’s zero-tolerance stance. Earlier filings targeted Vikas Kumar, Devmani Rai, Satyam Kumar, Ahmad Ansari, and Manzoor Khan.

These cases illustrate the interconnected web of terror financing and arms proliferation plaguing eastern India. With enhanced surveillance and inter-agency coordination, authorities are racing to neutralize threats before they escalate into larger calamities.
