India’s space ambitions are reaching new heights with plans to set up space labs in universities and colleges throughout the country. Starting with seven facilities in the first phase, these hubs will offer students real-world experience in satellite technologies, rocket propulsion, and mission planning.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science and Technology, conducted a detailed review of the project on Sunday. The initiative aims to cultivate a talented cadre of Indian professionals ready to lead in the space domain, aligning with the sector’s rapid privatization.

The review featured insights from IN-SPACe Chairman Dr. Pawan Goenka on key reforms. Private investment has surged past $600 million in five years, fueling growth from a handful of startups in 2019 to over 400 expected by 2026. These ventures span launch vehicles, payloads, ground stations, data analytics, and orbital services.

Government support includes a Rs 1,000 crore VC fund with SIDBI, a Rs 500 crore fund for tech adoption, and seed grants up to Rs 1 crore. Training efforts have completed 17 programs, certifying 900 experts in critical areas like satellite assembly and cybersecurity.

Internationally, collaborations with over 45 nations include fresh agreements with Singapore and UAE, alongside global market access for domestic startups. IN-SPACe has processed 1,000+ applications, issuing 129 approvals. This educational push promises to democratize space tech, fostering innovation and self-reliance.
