Uttarkashi’s administration has rolled out an innovative initiative with the launch of nine portable pink kiosks at Heena parking, targeting the influx of Char Dham Yatra pilgrims. District Magistrate Prashant Arya performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, highlighting the dual benefits of women empowerment and promotion of local produce.
As the gateway to the revered Char Dham circuit, Uttarkashi sees massive footfall each pilgrimage season. These kiosks transform rest stops into vibrant hubs stocked with regional delights like rhododendron and malta juices, herbal salts, tangy pickles, mountain fruit preserves, and traditional crafts. Pilgrims can now savor and shop without straying from their path.
DM Arya chatted with a group of Madhya Pradesh devotees, soliciting their views on amenities and merchandise standards. Their positive responses underscored the kiosks’ role in elevating travel experiences through reliable, fresh offerings.
Run by self-help group women, the venture is set to generate steady livelihoods, bridging rural producers to a ready market of tourists. This direct sales model empowers women economically and aligns with national self-reliance goals. ‘These kiosks will strengthen women’s financial footing and inject vitality into village economies,’ affirmed the DM.
From aromatic lemonades to handcrafted souvenirs, the kiosks showcase Uttarakhand’s heritage, allowing visitors to carry home pieces of the Himalayas. The presence of key officials at the launch signals strong administrative backing for such grassroots innovations.
