Madhya Pradesh scores a big win for its agrarian economy as New Delhi greenlights 22 lakh metric tons extra wheat procurement. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hailed the move, thanking PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah profusely.
The revised target now stands at around 100 lakh MT for 2026, up from the original 78 lakh MT allocated for Rabi 2026-27. This comes amid record-breaking yields that have outpaced initial estimates.
‘Continuous dialogue with union leaders, including Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, bore fruit,’ Yadav revealed. The state’s procurement drive is in full swing, capitalizing on doubled production over last year.
External factors like export restrictions worldwide and jute sack scarcities pose risks, yet the administration is undeterred. Drawing from last season’s stockpiles, officials are ready to procure every grain.
Yadav emphasized the state’s unwavering support: ‘Our farmer-centric government has always delivered, from soybean compensations to current assurances. No need for panic; all wheat will be bought, dates extendable as required.’
This policy shift not only bolsters farmer incomes via MSP but also fortifies food security reserves. As Madhya Pradesh revels in its wheat bounty, the enhanced quota symbolizes a robust center-state synergy, poised to navigate global trade turbulence effectively.
