In a groundbreaking finding, India claims the global top spot for AI adoption in personal healthcare, boasting an impressive 85% usage rate that leaves developed nations in the dust. A fresh BCG report dropped Tuesday spotlights this trend, based on insights from more than 13,000 respondents in 15 countries.

Titled ‘Consumers Are Ready for AI-Enabled Healthcare. Health Systems Must Get Ready Too,’ the analysis shows Indians adopting generative AI at a pace unmatched worldwide. Compare that to 50% in the US, 43% in the UK, and just 34% in Japan—India’s enthusiasm is unparalleled.

While 60% globally experiment with AI for health tasks, India’s dominance reflects skyrocketing confidence in digital tools, fueled by widespread smartphone penetration and innovative apps.

Patients are reimagining care delivery, overwhelmingly preferring AI-doctor partnerships over full automation. This synergy shines in interpreting lab results and tackling long-term illnesses like diabetes and hypertension.

The youth brigade is at the forefront: 78% of Gen Z and 71% of Millennials are active AI users in health management, accelerating the shift.

AI engagement today revolves around chatbots and fitness trackers, but the horizon beckons with ‘agentic AI’—autonomous agents that schedule visits, manage specialist referrals, and flag medication risks proactively.

This evolving demand for intelligent, hands-off AI promises to streamline healthcare, reduce burdens on providers, and empower individuals with proactive wellness insights, positioning India as a global pacesetter.
