In a remarkable display of proactive policing, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) launched targeted operations that resulted in the arrest of several mobile phone thieves at key stations. These incidents, spanning just a few days, highlight the force’s dedication to curbing petty crimes that plague rail travel.

The first major catch occurred on April 13 when Rangiya’s CPDS team intercepted a thief on a train. Passengers’ valuables were at risk, but quick intervention led to the recovery of stolen mobiles totaling ₹40,000. The accused faced immediate handover to Rangiya GRP, with a case registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Hot on its heels, April 14 saw action at Katihar (East). RPF personnel detained a suspect at the station platform, uncovering a ₹15,000 stolen phone. GRP Katihar took custody, booking the individual under applicable BNS sections.

Guwahati station witnessed a similar scene later that day. The CPDS unit arrested a culprit possessing another ₹15,000 worth of pilfered mobile, swiftly passing him to local GRP for formal charges.

The campaign peaked on April 16 at Bongaigaon station, where New Bongaigaon RPF post officers seized a ₹10,000 stolen device from an apprehended thief. GRP New Bongaigaon was notified for subsequent action.

NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Kampinjal Kishore Sharma, emphasized the force’s ongoing efforts to safeguard commuters. Operating from its Maligaon headquarters, the railway extends services across Northeast India, parts of West Bengal, and Bihar.

Passengers are advised to stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting dubious behavior. Such partnerships are vital in maintaining the sanctity of rail journeys, proving that vigilance pays off in preventing thefts and ensuring safer travels for all.
