Purulia buzzed with excitement on April 19 as BJP MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato proclaimed a decisive victory for his party in the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. In an IANS interview, he forecasted BJP forming the next government with a two-thirds majority, riding high on PM Narendra Modi’s electrifying rally that dwarfed all previous gatherings.

‘Lakhs turned up in Purulia, making this the biggest rally ever,’ Mahato enthused, predicting a clean sweep of the district’s nine seats for BJP. TMC, he said, won’t bag even one. The atmosphere in Bengal has decisively tilted towards BJP, setting the stage for a dominant mandate.

Highlighting PM Modi’s national broadcast, Mahato challenged TMC on the Women’s Reservation Bill. ‘Why the objection? The INDIA bloc stalled it, claiming lack of data—we’ll pass it once figures are in,’ he explained. He lambasted Mamata Banerjee for hypocrisy on women’s empowerment, alleging her party seeks to enslave them. ‘Bengal’s women will hit back hard in these elections.’

Rahul Gandhi came under fire too, with Mahato decrying his illogical rants and foul words against the bill. ‘People see through this; they’ll pay at the ballot box, struggling even for opposition leader status next time.’

On corruption, Mahato was unyielding: a BJP regime would investigate every scam meticulously. ‘Selective punishment awaits—no mercy for the guilty. We’ll pack them off to prison.’ This aggressive stance positions BJP as the anti-corruption crusader, energizing supporters amid fierce electoral rivalry.
