In a move to counter global supply chain vulnerabilities, South Korea’s President Lee Jae-myung left Seoul on Sunday for India and Vietnam. The centerpiece of his trip is a summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled for Monday in New Delhi, building on their prior G7 and G20 interactions.

As Middle East hostilities fuel energy market chaos, the leaders will explore ways to secure supply chains, emphasizing cooperation in shipbuilding, maritime sectors, AI, and defense. South Korea’s National Security Advisor Wi Sung-lac noted these areas as focal points during a briefing.

Lee’s arrival in India today sets the stage for in-depth bilateral discussions. He may also join a business roundtable to support Korean firms expanding in India’s booming electronics and auto sectors, where the country serves as both a manufacturing base and key market.

Shifting to Vietnam mid-week, President Lee embarks on his inaugural state visit to Hanoi on Tuesday. Wednesday’s meeting with President To Lam, recently elevated to the role, will tackle energy security and essential minerals amid geopolitical shifts.

Further engagements include sessions with Premier Pham Minh Chinh and Assembly head Tran Thanh Man, plus a business forum aimed at accelerating economic integration. Through these visits, Lee seeks to solidify South Korea’s alliances with dynamic economies, enhancing its regional influence.
