Water Conservation Will Increase Prosperity in Villages

Farmers and Villagers Will Get Great Benefits from Livelihood Ponds and New Tanks

Raipur April 17, 2026/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today launched Chhattisgarh government’s ambitious initiative “Mor Gaon, Mor Pani, Mor Tariya Mahabhiyan” at Ranjita Stadium in Jashpur. Under the campaign’s “Nawa Tariya, Aay Ke Jariya” (New Tanks, Source of Income) initiative, he also laid the foundation stone for the construction of 500 new tanks (ponds) in the state. This will improve water conservation, groundwater levels, and irrigation facilities for agricultural activities. Through this campaign, large-scale efforts will be made towards water conservation, water augmentation, and empowering rural livelihoods.
Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA), a target of constructing 10,000 livelihood ponds was set under this grand campaign, against which more than 13,000 ponds have been completed by April 15, 2026. This achievement reflects the campaign’s pace and effectiveness.

Addressing the occasion, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that water is the basis of life and development. Through the ‘Mor Gaon, Mor Pani, Mor Tariya’ campaign, we are making water conservation a mass movement in every village. This will not only increase water availability but also increase farmers’ income and strengthen the rural economy. He said that livelihood ponds will promote various livelihood activities in rural areas such as fishing, duck farming, water chestnut cultivation, vegetable production, and tree plantation, providing people with additional income opportunities. For the promotion of this scheme at the rural level, detailed information is being made available through wall writing, banners, awareness campaigns in Gram Sabhas, and QR codes. Extensive promotion is also being done through social media platforms. Promoting women’s empowerment, the participation of self-help group women in tasks related to livelihood ponds has been ensured. The name of the female member of the beneficiary family is being inscribed on the public information board, strengthening women’s rights and participation.

Under this, work is being approved based on advanced technology-based plan preparation and Gram Sabha approval, ensuring transparency and effective monitoring. Through community participation, this campaign will work to give a new direction to the overall development of Gram Panchayats and the rural economy. The “Mor Gaon, Mor Pani, Mor Tariya” Mahabhiyan is emerging as a historic initiative towards bringing permanent change in the lives of villagers by making water conservation a mass movement in Jashpur and across the state.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Chairman of Chhattisgarh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board Shri Rampratap Singh, Pathalgaon MLA Smt. Gomti Sai, Jashpur MLA Smt. Raymuni Bhagat, and a large number of dignitaries.
