JAMAICA: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to Jamaica marked a pivotal moment in India-Caribbean relations, with high-level talks centering on education, healthcare, agriculture, and more.

Meeting his counterpart Kamina J. Smith, Jaishankar delved into opportunities for collaboration in vital domains including digital technologies, tourism, sports, entertainment, infrastructure development, capacity enhancement, and global multilateral forums. Posting on X, he detailed the comprehensive review of partnership facets undertaken with Smith and fellow ministers.

The dialogue aimed at propelling bilateral ties forward, leveraging shared histories tied to Girmitiya communities that form a unique bond between India and Jamaica.

In the afternoon, Jaishankar addressed business leaders, stressing the urgency of expanding economic engagements. ‘The need to fortify business links intensifies as we explore varied ventures and reliable partnerships,’ he stated, appreciating the arrangements by Senator Aubyn Hill.

Symbolizing goodwill, India gifted ten Bhishm Cubes – compact, deployable medical units ideal for crisis response. Handed over amid Health Minister Christopher Tufton and Smith’s presence, these units represent India’s innovative edge in aiding disaster management.

Part of a broader May 2-10 itinerary covering Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, this visit reinforces India’s proactive diplomacy in the Caribbean, fostering growth in trade, health resilience, and cultural exchanges for sustained regional impact.
