A Gujarati woman was fatally shot in South Carolina, leading to the arrest of a suspect. The incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime. The victim, identified as 49-year-old Kiran Ben Patel, was shot on Tuesday, September 16, around 10:30 pm. She was a resident of Borsad town in the Anand district of Gujarat. The alleged shooter, 21-year-old Zaedan Mack Hill, reportedly entered the store wearing a mask and opened fire. Patel, who had lived in South Carolina for over two decades and owned a local store, was counting cash when the attack occurred. Despite attempting to escape, she was pursued and shot multiple times in the parking lot of DD’s Food Mart. She is survived by her son and daughter, who reside in the UK and Canada, respectively.
