In Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, a close associate of former US President Donald Trump, has been placed under house arrest by the Supreme Court, facing accusations of plotting a coup. This decision followed Trump’s imposition of a 50% tariff on Brazil, allegedly to protect his friend. Prior to this, Trump had issued a warning to current Brazilian President Lula da Silva, suggesting economic consequences if Bolsonaro faced legal repercussions. However, Lula remained firm, rejecting Trump’s interference and asserting Brazil’s sovereignty. The judge who ordered Bolsonaro’s house arrest, Alexandre de Moraes, is also facing Trump’s disapproval and potential US sanctions.
