    San Francisco: Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new ‘favourite contacts filter’ feature, allowing users to prioritize their conversations and offer greater control and efficiency in the messaging experience.

    The new feature, spotted by WABetaInfo, mentioned that it will appear with a dedicated chat filter in a future update of WhatsApp Web. According to the report, the new feature will allow users to choose their favourite contacts and manually add the ones they care about most, making it easier to access them through a dedicated filter.

    “By allowing users to mark specific contacts as favourites, WhatsApp enables them to prioritize key conversations, ensuring quick and easy access to those they frequently interact with,” the report said.     “The introduction of favourite contacts not only simplifies the process of reaching out to frequently contacted users but also adds a layer of customization, allowing them to improve their messaging experience to suit their preferences,” it added.

    Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly preparing to allow third-party messaging apps on its platform ahead of the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which will come into force in March.     Dick Brouwer, an engineering director at WhatsApp, told Wired that the company is ready to offer interoperability on the platform with over 2 billion users. “There’s real tension between offering an easy way to offer this interoperability to third parties while at the same time preserving the WhatsApp privacy, security, and integrity bar. I think we’re pretty happy with where we’ve landed,” he was quoted as saying in the report.”

    New Delhi: WhatsApp, a Meta-owned instant messaging platform, is gearing up to roll out a new feature for quick calling to a favourite person. This new feature is termed ‘favourite contacts,’ which allows users to set some of their contacts as favourites so that they can call them quickly on iOS.

    The new feature, spotted by WABetaInfo, has been introduced to improve overall accessibility by providing a quick and intuitive shortcut for calling favourite contacts directly from the calls tab. The upcoming ‘Favorite contacts’ feature will appear at the top of the calls tab, ensuring a phone call is always just one tap away.     According to WABetaInfo reports, “We believe that this feature will elevate the user experience by providing a personalized way to connect with favourite contacts, improving the communication process. By designating certain contacts as favourites, users can ensure that these contacts are readily available at the forefront of their calling interface.”

    Currently, this feature is still under development and not available for beta testers. However, it is anticipated to be integrated into an upcoming update of the WhatsApp iOS app.

    Meanwhile, WhatsApp has started rolling out a new feature that lets iOS users create, edit, and share their stickers.     Moreover, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a new feature called ‘pinned events’ that allows members of community groups to conveniently access event information with a single tap.

    New Delhi: WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is reportedly introducing a new feature to some beta testers on iOS (iPhone Operating System), allowing users to share polls within channels. As evidenced in a shared screenshot by WABetaInfo, some beta testers now can explore a new poll option directly within their channels.

    To check if this feature is active for their account or not, channel owners can check by accessing the chat attachment menu within their channel. 

    According to the report, this feature emphasizes the security and confidentiality of poll votes, ensuring that the choices made by channel followers remain protected and anonymous throughout the polling process.     A post written by WhatsApp on Instagram suggests, “You can now turn your photos into stickers or edit existing stickers. In other news, you’ll likely have to show the entire group chat how you did it. Rolling out now on iOS.”

    Furthermore, you can customize stickers with text, drawings, and the ability to overlay other stickers with WhatsApp’s editing tools.     “While creating a poll, channel owners can also restrict it to a single choice by disabling the multiple answers option, providing a flexible voting experience for channel followers,” the report said.” 

    Notably, the feature has already begun to be rolled out to WhatsApp beta users on both iOS and Android. However, a stable build containing the feature for all users may be released soon.

    New Delhi: Meta-owned WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that will let users share music audio during a video call on Android.

    According to WABetaInfo, the ability to listen to video and music audio together is now available to some beta testers.

    “Specifically, when someone in the call shares their screen, audio they play on their device will also be shared with other people in the call. It’s important to note that this feature also works in individual calls, allowing users to enjoy a synchronised audio experience even in one-on-one video conversations,” the report noted.

    According to the report, the new feature not only promotes a sense of togetherness in group interactions but also brings an added layer of intimacy to one-on-one conversations.

    Moreover, users in a call can also watch videos together, experimenting with shared audio during their video calls, allowing participants to synchronise their video playback experiences, creating a virtual movie-watching or content-sharing session.

    The feature will be rolling out to even more people over the coming weeks, the report mentioned.

    Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly developing a feature that will allow users to search for others through their username. Users will now be able to search for others by entering their username into the search bar, in a future update of the web client.
