  • Owaisi’s kin and top Hyderabad doctor dies by suicide

    By IANS

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s well-known orthopaedic surgeon Dr Mazharuddin Ali Khan allegedly shot himself dead at his residence in the city on Monday, police said.

Khan, 60, took the extreme step at his residence in Banjara Hills. He was rushed to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Khan was the Superintendent of Owaisi Hospital and also the father-in-law of AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s second daughter.

The physician had a gunshot wound on the right side of his head. Police shifted the body for autopsy.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Joel Davis said Khan apparently shot himself dead due to property and family disputes.

The police officer said the doctor had the gun license and investigations were on to verify if he used the licensed gun for the extreme step. “Prima facie, he killed himself with his licensed weapon but investigations are on,” he said.

Khan is believed to have killed himself four hours before he was brought to the hospital. He was alone at his home and when he did not respond to phone calls, some relatives had gone to check on him. He was found in a pool of blood and was taken to the hospital.

Khan had been associated with Owaisi Hospital since its inception. His son Dr Abid Ali Khan had married Asaduddin Owaisi’s second daughter in 2020.

  • Suicide of Dalit youth in MP: Special court directs police to register FIR, submit report

    By PTI

INDORE: A special court in Indore has ordered the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the February 2022 suicide of a 21-year-old Dalit man due to alleged police torture.

The family of the deceased had alleged that he was tortured by police as he was in love with a Brahmin girl and eloped with her.

Police allegedly refused to probe the suicide, so the family moved a special court for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act cases, said the family’s lawyer Neeraj Kumar Soni.

Special judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari earlier this month ordered the Scheduled Castes welfare police station here to register a case and submit a report after a probe, Soni said.

Badia, a B Com student, left home along with his Brahmin girlfriend on February 9, 2022, with the intention of getting married, as per the complaint.

Police sub-inspector Vikas Sharma, posing as the girl’s uncle, visited his house on the same day and threatened the family members using casteist words, the complaint said.

Sharma called Akash to Chandan Nagar police station on February 10, 2022, and beat him up inside an ambulance parked on the police station premises, it alleged.

The police officers allegedly warned him that if he married the woman, he would be implicated in rape and drug cases and spend his whole life in jail.

Akash allegedly hanged himself at home on February 16, 2022.

A note on his mobile phone accused Vikas Sharma and another official of the Chandan Nagar Police Station of being responsible for his death.

Despite the family’s complaint, no suicide case was registered, the complaint alleged.

  • Rajasthan police officer’s suicide: Warrant against Cong MLA Krishna Poonia

    By IANS

JAIPUR: A bailable warrant was issued against former Olympian and Sadulpur (Churu) MLA Krishna Poonia on Tuesday. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has issued an order for Poonia to appear on March 4. The MLA is accused of inciting Vishnudutt Bishnoi, the then SHO Rajgarh (Churu) police station in Bikaner division, to commit suicide.

On May 23, 2020, Vishnudutt Bishnoi, the then station officer of Rajgarh, had committed suicide. Vishnudutt’s brother Sandeep Bishnoi had accused Krishna Poonia of harassing him. Sandeep lodged a police complaint stating that Krishna Poonia was responsible for Vishnudutt’s suicide.

The matter was earlier investigated by the CB CID. The local people demanded handing over the investigation to the CBI. After this, the state government handed over the case to the CBI which had imposed FR in its investigation. The FR report was submitted to the ACMM (CBI), Jodhpur. Here the court dismissed the FR while ordering a re-investigation of the case. Also, it summoned Krishna Poonia, issuing a bailable warrant against her.

A screenshot of a WhatsApp chat between the SHO and his activist friend went viral where the police officer claimed that he was “being trapped in dirty politics at the local level”.

However, the representative of Krishna Poonia, Virendra Poonia said: We are completely innocent in this case. We will appeal this in the High Court.

It has been accepted in the CBI report that Poonia used to call the police. He was also upset because of this.

After Vishnudutt’s suicide, his minor son also hanged himself at home. He was a student of class XI and was quite upset over his father’s death. After the death of both father and son, the whole family was broken.

Vishnudutt Bishnoi had written two suicide notes. One suicide note was written to his family members, the other to the then Churu SP Tejaswini Gautam. In this, he wrote: Respected madam, sorry, please, so much pressure was created around me that I could not bear the stress. I tried to give my best to Rajasthan Police till my last breath. It is requested not to disturb anyone. I was not a coward. Just couldn’t take the stress. I am my own culprit.

Meanwhile, Krishna Poonia speaking to the media said, “I haven’t received the court warrant yet and have received information only from the media. I’ve been interrogated once but have not been called anywhere for further probe,” she added.

  • Seer ends his life in Rajasthan’s Jalore, case against BJP MLA for abetting suicide

    By PTI

JODHPUR: A seer died by suicide in Rajasthan’s Jalore after he was allegedly pressured by a BJP MLA to give way through his hermitage to the land where the legislator wanted to build a resort, according to police.

Police also recovered a suicide note from the spot but did not disclose its content.

After Ravinath (60) was found hanging from a tree at Jalore’s Rajapura village on Thursday night, seers at the hermitage did not allow police to take down the body, demanding that the suicide note’s content be disclosed.

Meanwhile, Bhinmal MLA Pooraram Choudhary denied the allegations and demanded a fair investigation.

Jalore SP Harshwardhan Agarwalla said they have registered an abetment of suicide case against the legislator on a complaint given by the seers.

“They have not yet taken down the body. We are trying to convince them for a post-mortem,” Agarwalla said.

He admitted that a suicide note was recovered but refused to disclose its content, saying it may impact the investigation.

The SP said they have got information on Friday morning that Ravinath was found hanging from a tree in Rajapura.

The seers there blamed the Bhinmal MLA for the suicide and claimed that the legislator had been harassing the victim for the past some time.

Police said Choudhary has a piece of land adjacent to the hermitage and he was preparing to build a resort there.

“But to reach his land, he needed through the hermitage, for which Choudhary had been forcing Ravinath to provide him land for it,” said an official.

Choudhary junked the allegations and said he himself has surrendered land for the hermitage of Ravinath.

“The allegations are false. I have on the contrary surrendered my land for the hermitage. I urge for a fair investigation into the matter. This appears to be a case of murder and Ravinath must get justice,” said Choudhary.
