MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is “happy and absolutely healthy” after he was discharged from a hospital on Sunday following a non-venomous snake bite, said actor-politician Bina Kak, a close family friend.

According to sources, the snake bit Khan’s hand on Saturday night at his farmhouse near Panvel in the adjoining Raigad district.

The actor was then taken to a hospital at Kamothe in Navi Mumbai and was discharged on Sunday morning.

Salman was bitten last night and taken to a hospital. He was discharged after six hours. “He is back home and well,” sources close to the actor had said.

Khan was back to his farmhouse, where he will be ringing in his 56th birthday on Monday.

Kak, who has worked with Khan in films like “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?” and “God Tussi Great Ho”, shared a health update of the actor on Instagram later in the evening.

“Birthday tomorrow, all good and cheerful, happy and absolutely healthy today. Happy to be surrounded by family. I call him Khuda ki ‘Naimat’. All our blessings for a happy, healthy, long and meaningful life ahead,” Kak wrote alongside a selfie with Khan.

  • Vaccine hesitancy seen in Muslim areas, Maharashtra government to rope in Salman to promote inoculation: Minister

    By PTI

JALNA: Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope has said there was hesitancy about taking anti-coronavirus vaccines in Muslim-dominated areas, and the government will take the help of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan to convince people to take the jab.

Maharashtra is leading in terms of the number of vaccine shots administered, but in some areas the pace of vaccination is low, Tope said, speaking to reporters here on Monday.

“There is still some hesitancy in Muslim-dominated areas. We have decided to use Salman Khan and religious leaders to convince the Muslim community to take the vaccine,” he said.

“Religious leaders and film actors wield great influence and people listen to them,” he added. Over 10.25 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the state so far, and by the end of November all eligible persons will have received at least the first dose, the minister said.

About the possibility of a third wave of the viral infection, Tope said as per the experts, the pandemic has a seven-month cycle, but due to large-scale vaccination, the next wave would not be severe. People should follow the COVID safety protocol and get vaccinated, he added.

  • Rajasthan woman loses Rs 12 lakh in horse-trading, told she was buying one owned by Salman Khan

    By PTI
JODHPUR: A Rajasthan woman here claims to have been duped of Rs 12 lakh by three fraudsters who offered to sell her a horse owned by actor Salman Khan.

She gave them the money — Rs 11 lakh in cash and the rest through a cheque — but was delivered no horse, according to the complaint she made to police.

The woman also approached court seeking a “fair and impartial” investigation.

The Rajasthan High Court Thursday disposed of her petition.

It asked her to submit her case to the concerned deputy commissioner of police, with a direction to him to decide strictly in accordance with law.

Salman Khan is reputed to be a horse-lover and in the past has posted pictures indicating this on social media.

Nirbhay Singh, Rajpreet and another person also allegedly showed Santosh Bhati a picture of the actor with a horse at his farmhouse and told her that this horse was available for sale, the petitioner’s counsel P D Dave said, referring to her complaint.

The suspects convinced Bhati that they are known to the actor and have sold some of his horses earlier.

They told her that Khan wanted to sell the horse and she will be able to rack up huge profit by selling the horse after purchasing, according to Dave.

Bhati accepted the deal and handed them Rs 12 lakh as the price of the horse, but when they did not hand her the delivery, she filed a complaint with the police last August, he said.

After no action was allegedly taken on her complaint, the woman moved a petition at the high court in Jodhpur seeking direction to the police to conduct a fair and expedited investigation into the matter.

During the hearing, Additional Advocate General Farzand Ali argued before the single-judge bench that the police were already conducting a fair investigation and if any material was brought on record by the petitioner, it would be considered strictly in accordance with the law before completion of the investigation.

Justice P S Bhati disposed of the petition with direction to the petitioner to submit a representation with the concerned deputy commissioner of police who would decide it in accordance with the law.

  • Court dismisses plea against Salman Khan for ‘false affidavit’ in Arms Act case

    By Express News Service
JAIPUR: The Jodhpur District and Sessions Court on Thursday let off actor Salman Khan in a case related to submitting a false affidavit in court.

The court dismissed a plea filed by the Rajasthan government against the actor for allegedly submitting a false affidavit in the Jodhpur session court in 2003, during his hearing in a case related to the poaching of two blackbucks in Jodhpur in 1998.

Salman was present through video conferencing as the court delivered its verdict. In the final hearing two days ago, Salman’s lawyers had apologised for ‘mistakenly’ submitting a false affidavit in the Jodhpur session court in 2003. They had pleaded that the actor be forgiven as he had submitted a wrong affidavit not deliberately but because of his busy schedule which led to oversight and the submission of the wrong affidavit.

After the verdict, the actor’s lawyer, Hastimal Saraswat said, “Jodhpur District and Sessions Court dismissed both the pleas of the State Government in a detailed order. We had replied in 2006 that no false affidavits were presented and such pleas are being furnished only to disturb Salman Khan.”

The Rajasthan government had in 2006 submitted a plea accusing Khan of submitting a fake affidavit. In 1998, Khan was booked in four different cases of poaching black bucks and chinkaras during the shooting of the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. In one of those cases, he was booked under the Arms Act. During the hearing of this case, he was asked to submit his arms licence. The state government made the accusation after the actor submitted an affidavit in court claiming that he had lost his weapon’s licence, when it had actually gone for renewal. The prosecution had asked the court to take action against Khan under Section 340 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in 2006. Public prosecutor Bhavani Singh Bhati had then demanded that a case of misleading the court should be filed against the actor.

The verdict comes as a major relief for Khan as he could have faced a jail term of upto seven years had he been pronounced guilty in the case.

  • Court to pronounce order on February 11 on plea against Salman Khan for ‘false’ affidavit in Arms Act case

    By PTI
JODHPUR: A District and Sessions court is likely to pronounce on Thursday its order on a plea against actor Salman Khan for alleged submission of a false affidavit related to his arms licence in the court in 2003.

Arguments on the applications were completed on Tuesday and Judge Raghvendra Kachhwala reserved the order for February 11.

The trial court had in June 2019 absolved Khan of the allegation of filing a false affidavit.

But the state government had filed an appeal against this order in the District and Sessions court.

Khan had filed the affidavit in the court in 2003 in the case against him under Arms Act stating that he had lost his arms licence.

The prosecution had argued that he had submitted a false affidavit as his licence was not lost but submitted for renewal.

“We argued that it was not intentional to submit this affidavit as Khan was a busy actor and had no exact idea about his licence at that time,” said Khan’s counsel HM Saraswat said.

He argued that if the accused has submitted a false affidavit by mistake and he has no advantage of such an act, he should be forgiven and absolved from the allegations.

The prosecution had already completed its arguments in the matter while the defence concluded on Tuesday.

The matter is linked to a case against Khan under the Arms Act, in which the actor had been accused of keeping arms with an expired licence and using them for poaching.

  • Blackbuck poaching: Rajasthan HC lets Salman Khan appear before sessions court through video link

    By PTI
JODHPUR: Bollywood actor Salman Khan was on Friday allowed by the Rajasthan High Court to appear before a sessions court here, hearing his appeal against conviction in the Blackbuck poaching case, through video conferencing.

A Jodhpur bench of the high court gave the relief of the actor, accepting his counsel’s argument that travelling from Mumbai to Jodhpur amid the COVID-19 pandemic may pose threat to Khan’s health.

A bench of justices Indrajit Mahanty and Dinesh Mehta also conceded the argument counsel HM Saraswat’s argument that his client’s personal appearance attracting huge gathering in court premises may also cause a law and order issue.

Accordingly, the bench ruled that “it would be in the interest of justice” if Khan is allowed to appear through video links or video conferencing instead of appearing physically as the session court has directed. Khan’s counsel Saraswat said the court has allowed the actor to appear in the session court for the hearing scheduled on Saturday in the virtual mode.

Khan had been directed by the session court to appear in person before it during the hearing on his appeal against the trial court’s April 5, 2018 ruling, convicting and sentencing him to five years in jail in the Black Buck poaching case.
