But she comes to realise she doesn’t want to end that part of their bond.

Davis Entertainment and Lit Entertainment will produce ‘Ending Things’ with Inspire Entertainment and Mackie’s Make It With Gravy Productions.

  • Just pissed me off: Priyanka on Aussie journo questioning her credentials

    By PTI

Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas says she usually doesn’t get bothered by people’s opinions but she was “pissed off” when an Australian journalist questioned her qualification for announcing Oscar nominations last year.

In March last year, an Australian entertainment journalist tweeted wondering why the 39-year-old actor and her musician-husband Nick Jonas were roped in to unveil nominees for the 93rd Academy Awards.

Chopra Jonas posted a staunch reply to the journalist as she shared a video listing over 60 acting credits from her almost two-decade-long career – at home in Bollywood, including “Mary Kom”, “7 Khoon Maaf”, “Bajirao Mastani”, her international debut with the ABC series “Quantico” to her Hollywood feature debut “Baywatch”.

Chopra Jonas has now opened up about the exchange during a recent interview with Vanity Fair.

“I usually don’t get mad, but that just pissed me off,” the “Matrix Resurrections” star said.

She further said she usually confides in her family when she feels low and doesn’t seem to get affected by people’s opinions.

“I’ll be mad, I’ll be angry, I’ll be annoyed. I’ll speak about it to my family. I might cry a little bit, but it doesn’t change my relationship with my work and what my actual quest is.

“My quest is not people’s opinions. My quest is my job. My quest is making sure that when someone watches something that I have done, it moves them or they enjoy it. My personal life, who I am, all of that is not my job,” she said.

The actor also spoke about the perils of social media where speculation was rife last month that all was not well in her marriage after she dropped Jonas from her surname on Twitter.

Chopra Jonas termed this as a “professional hazard” as believes that there is unnecessary credence given to social media in real life.

“It’s a very vulnerable feeling, actually, that if I post a picture, everything that’s behind me in that picture is going to be zoomed in on, and people are going to speculate,” Chopra Jonas said.

“It’s just a professional hazard…. Because of the noise of social media, because of the prevalence that it has in our lives, I think it seems a lot larger than it is. I think that we give it a lot more credence in real life, and I don’t think it needs that,”” she added.

On the work front, the actor was last seen on the big screen in the Hollywood film “The Matrix Resurrections”, which opened in cinemas worldwide in December.

Her upcoming slate of films includes Jim Strouse-directed rom-com “Text For You”, Amazon thriller series “Citadel”, produced by Russo Brothers, and “Sangeet”, an unscripted series co-produced with her husband.

She will also produce a film with Amazon Studios on the life of Ma Anand Sheela, the former aide to late godman Osho Rajneesh.

“Relationship goals,” a social media user wrote.

  • Myopic, small mentality: Priyanka on questions about length of her role in new ‘Matrix’ movie

    By PTI

Priyanka Chopra Jonas says people who trivialise her role in The Matrix Resurrections on the basis of her screen time in the film have a “myopic” and “small mentality”.

Chopra Jonas stars as Sati, an exiled program, in the Lana Wachowski-directed movie alongside Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity.

During a recent interview with Asian Sunday TV, the actor was asked the reason for taking the part, considering it wasn’t a lead character.

“I think you are coming from something which a lot of people from the South Asian community ask me. ‘It’s a small role, it’s not a leading role, why did you do it?’ Because it’s ‘The Matrix’ and I play an extremely pivotal part.”

“Even when I picked my movies in Bollywood, I have always picked roles according to characters and they are not necessarily always the lead. The lead is Carrie-Anne Moss, who played Trinity in the last three movies. You’re not competing with that and I think it’s such a myopic and very small mentality to think that way,”” Chopra Jonas replied.

In recent years, the 39-year-old actor has gained prominence in Hollywood with her work in the TV show “Quantico” and films, including “Baywatch” and “Isn’t It Romantic”.

Back home in Bollywood, she is regarded as one of the most versatile performers with films such as “Fashion”, “Barfi”, “Don” series, “Kaminey”, “Bajirao Mastani” to her credit.

Chopra Jonas said it is her belief that every actor on board for a film contributes to the story.

“This (‘The Matrix’) is an ensemble of incredible actors and I think by asking that question, you really reduce the grandiosity of being a part of the playground of playing with such incredible people,” she added.

Chopra Jonas’s upcoming slate of films includes Jim Strouse-directed rom-com “Text For You”, Amazon thriller series “Citadel”, produced by Russo Brothers, and “Sangeet”, an unscripted series co-produced with her husband.

She will also produce a film with Amazon Studios on the life of Ma Anand Sheela, the former aide to late godman Osho Rajneesh.

  • ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ led by formidable female characters, says Priyanka Chopra Jonas

    By PTI

MUMBAI: As the new kid on “The Matrix Resurrections” set, Priyanka Chopra Jonas says she initially felt intimidated by the cast from the previous movies but it turned out to be a wonderful experience to work on the film that’s led by formidable women.

The upcoming film in the popular sci-fi film franchise is written and directed by Lana Wachowski, who along with her sister Lilly had helmed the previous three titles  “The Matrix” in 1999, “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions”, both released in 2003.

Asked about the film’s action sequences, Priyanka said though she has done stunts in many of her films in Bollywood, her character of Sati specifically did not require any physical training.”When it comes to women, especially with The Matrix Resurrections’, it’s led by extremely formidable female characters.

All of them that you see, they are the ones leading the action…I think that was very important to our director Lana. It was something that really matters to her, she has spoken about,” the 39-year-old actor told PTI in a Zoom interview from Los Angeles.

“The Matrix Resurrections” brings back the original cast of the film series alongside a new set of characters. Keanu Reeves returns as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity and Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Christina Ricci, Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff are the new faces in the movie franchise with Priyanka, who plays the grown-up version of Sati, a child with an important connection with Neo.

To get into the skin of Sati — earlier seen in “The Matrix Revolutions” as a young girl played by Tanveer Atwal — the actor said it was essential for her to understand how the character graduates over the years in the Matrix universe.

Priyanka said it was an honour to be “inducted” in the film franchise, known for redefining the action and sci-fi genre with its complex story.

“It’s an extreme honour to be inducted or included in such a project and especially to be given the responsibility of the character of Sati, which I know is very close to Lana and it was very strategically placed in the previous movie. So, I was very excited when I got the role,” she said.

Recalling her first meeting with the director, the National Award winner said she took a flight to the US from India just to meet Wachowski after her agent’s call.

“I remember I was filming in India and I got a call from my agent saying, Lana wants to meet me tomorrow in San Francisco. And I got onto a flight, went straight from the airport to meet her, talk to her for a while. She asked me questions about the role and then she gave me the script and said ‘Welcome to The Matrix’ and it was really cool.”

Sati is described, by the makers, as a young woman with a wisdom that belies her years and an ability to see the truth, no matter how murky the waters.”What was required for me was having an understanding of what happened from the time we saw her in the previous movie, and where she is right now. I worked a lot with Lana about what Sati’s purpose is right now, why she is where she is and to be able to build the adult version of where you still see the younger, Sati,” she said describing the character’s journey within the Matrix universe.

“Like the way we have even worked with the hair, we tried to give a homage to her. That was really fun because as an actor, character development is the best part about our job,” the actor, who is seen in an intriguing appearance with loose pants, knee-high boots and braided short buns, added.

“The Sky is Pink” actor said working on the movie was a “visceral” experience.”I won’t lie, as someone who’s the new kid in the movie, I was very intimidated with Carrie-Anne, Keanu and Jada Pinkett and just having the cast from the previous movies on set. But they’re so wonderful, so encouraging.”Especially the new lot, as well as Yahya, Jessica, Jonathan, Neil.

I was intimidated for the first few days, but after that, they were all so lovely. It was a wonderful experience because we were experiencing this really visceral thing together.”

“The Matrix Resurrections” is set to be released in India by Warner Bros Pictures on December 22 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Up next for Priyanka, who has been successfully straddling her career in India and Hollywood, is the much talked about “Citadel” series with “Avengers: Endgame” directors Anthony and Joe Russo who are attached as producers.

The upcoming Amazon Studios multi-series franchise with local productions is being made in Italy, India and Mexico. Priyanka and “Game of Thrones” star Richard Madden are headlining the American version.

Billed as an action-packed spy series with a compelling emotional centre, “Citadel” is executive produced by Russo Brothers along with former ABC Studios president Patrick Moran and Mike Larocca.

“‘Citadel’ will be my next project here, which is just going to be so good. I recently saw a little bit of it and I’m proud of it. It took a lot of work. We shot it during Covid. Physically it was intense, it is one of the most intense things I’ve done. But I’m very proud of it. It’ll be amazing,” she said.

In India, the actor is equally thrilled about her next film “Jee Le Zaara” with Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt as her co-stars. The road trip drama will be directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced by his and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, and Tiger Baby, headed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti.

  • Priyanka Chopra shuts down split rumours, shares ‘Jonas Brothers Family Roast’ clip

    By PTI

MUMBAI: Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas took a dig at the rumours of her split with popstar-husband Nick Jonas by sharing a clip from their Netflix comedy special “Jonas Brothers Family Roast”.

On Monday, Priyanka dropped her surname, along with her husband’s last name, from all social media handles. Her move led to speculation that the 39-year-old actor was splitting with the American singer-songwriter, who she married in 2018.

Taking to Instagram late Tuesday evening, Priyanka shared a clip from the show, where she was seen roasting Nick (29).

“Brought my husband and his brothers a nice roast for dinner. Perks of being a Jonas,” she wrote with a cheeky, tongue-out emoticon.

In the clip, the “Dil Dhadakne Do” star is seen poking fun at the duo’s 10-year age gap.

Priyanka said the couple teach each other a lot of things: while Nick showed her how to use the social networking service TikTok, she quipped, “I showed him what a successful acting career looks like.”

She also joked about being the most famous Jonas in the family.

“Also, have you guys noticed how much content the Jonas Brothers post online? Like, they’re forever on Instagram, always on their phone. It’s so cute. I’ll tell you why. Because all of them combined still have less followers than me. So I guess the most popular Jonas is @PriyankaChopra on Instagram.”

Hollywood star Keanu Reeves plays the lead role of Neo in the Warner Bros Pictures-backed movie series, which also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, and Neil Patrick Harris.
