BJP MP asks Centre to relax IPS minimum height requirement for Arunachal Pradesh candidates

ITANAGAR: BJP Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao has asked the Centre to relax the minimum height requirement for the Indian Police Service (IPS) for candidates from Arunachal Pradesh.He said candidates from Arunachal Pradesh be given the height relaxation as given to people belonging to communities eligible for height relaxation.
In a letter to Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, Jitendra Singh on Tuesday, Gao, the MP from Arunachal Pradesh East constituency sought the relaxation after an Arunachal Pradesh doctor whose hope of becoming an IPS officer fell short by 2.5 cm.
Ojing Dameng of Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh was placed second in the provisional list of IPS officers in the Scheduled Tribes category in the Union Civil Services Examination.
But a medical examination found him unfit for the IPS because he is 162.5 cm tall, which is 2.5 cm less than the required minimum height of 165 cm for male candidates for the IPS.
Gao claimed the minimum height of 165 cm would deprive aspirants of Arunachal Pradesh from becoming IPS officers.
Referring to the minimum height of 165 cm for men and 150 cm for women candidates mentioned in Regulation 7(c) Appendix III of AIS, Act 1951, Gao said that as per the regulation, relaxed minimum height standard in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes and to the races such as Gorkhas, Assamese, Kumaonis, Nagaland are applicable to IPS with the height of men 160 cm and women 145 cm. “it is also to bring into your notice that present day Arunachal Pradesh (which came into existence only in 1972 as a Union Territory) was a composite state under the state of Assam and any citizen of Assam would be an Assamese.
“And hence, then Assamese in the provision would include tribal of Arunachal Pradesh as well. Also going by the intent of the legislation one can make out that the law is extending relaxation to such races whose average height is distinctly lower wherein Arunachal tribals’ rightfully fit, for that matter the North East tribals,” Gao wrote in his letter.
He added that in Arunachal Pradesh state police officers are recruited at a minimum height of 160 cms (for men). These officers are later promoted to the IPS.
“In view of the above and considering the fact that thousands of civil service aspirants from Arunachal Pradesh are competing every year in the UPSC exam and not to deprive them of their opportunities to serve the country. I request to kindly look into the matter as above and issue necessary directions and corrective measures in the interest of people of Arunachal Pradesh “, the BJP MP added.

Former Australian Cricketer Stuart MacGill Kidnapped, Released Hour Later, 4 Arrested: Cops
Australian police on Wednesday arrested four men in connection with the armed kidnapping of former Test bowler Stuart MacGill. The men were detained in a pre-dawn raid in Sydney, following the kidnapping of the cricketer in the city’s affluent Lower North Shore last month. MacGill was lauded as a talented bowler and played 44 Tests for Australia, but was unlucky that his career coincided with that of Shane Warne, ranked by many as the best spin bowler of all time.
Police said that on April 14 the 50-year-old MacGill was confronted by three men at an intersection and bundled into a vehicle.
He was driven to a property an hour out of the city where he was allegedly assaulted and threatened with a firearm before being released after the hour-long ordeal.
“I know it was only an hour that he was held but it would have been a horribly frightful hour to endure,” NSW Police superintendent Anthony Holton told media.
MacGill, who knew one of his alleged kidnappers, was “still quite shaken” by the incident, Holton said.

Although no ransom was paid police believe the kidnapping was financially motivated.

20 thousand registrations for corona vaccination, in this police, administration personnel, vaccination started

Police arrest two peddlers with ‘Charas’ of Rs 50,000
Continuing its crackdown against the drug network in the state capital, Raipur’s D D Nagar police arrested two persons in connection with Charas peddling and recovered around 130.370 grams of drugs. “Following a tip-off that two persons are looking out for customers to dispose-off charas near Bajari Nagar-based Central School, a police team from DD Nagar swung into action and intercepted the duo. During frisking, police have recovered 130.370 grams of charas packed in 15 packets,” said D D Nagar Station House Officer (SHO) Yogita Khaparde, elaborating that the estimated market value of the seized drugs would be around Rs 50,000. The SHO further informed that the arrested were identified as Naveen Verma (26), a resident of Banjari Nagar under D D Nagar police station limits, and Sheikh Sarfaraj (27), of Santoshi Nagar under Tikrapara police station. The arrested peddlers were produced in a local court from where he was sent to judicial custody. With the arrest of the two peddlers, police have launched a probe to ascertain the supply chain of charas in the State Capital and people indulged in the illegal business, said police sources, elaborating that Raipur Police’s campaign against the drug will continue in future as well.

State level cyber police station will speed up investigation of cyber crimes – Mr. Bhupesh Baghel
The Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the State Cyber Police Station established at the Police Headquarters today through video conference. He congratulated the police department on the occasion and said that this is a good initiative of the police department for the control of cyber crimes occurring in the state. This will help in solving various types of cyber crimes faster. Apart from this, other police stations will also get necessary guidance and technical help in research of cyber crimes.
The Chief Minister also visited the State Cyber Police Station through a video conference. In the online inauguration program with him, Home Minister Shri Tamradhwaj Sahu, Chief Minister and Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Shri Subrata Sahu, Special Director General of Police, Shri R.K. Mr. Sameer Bishnoi, Chief Executive Officer of Vij and Chips was also present. At the same time, the Director General of Police Shri D.M. Awasthi, Special Director General of Police Mr. Ashok Juneja and Additional Director General of Police Mr. Himanshu Gupta also attended the program.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel while addressing the inauguration program said that this cyber police station of Police Headquarters should make people aware of cyber crimes so that they do not become victims of crime and financial frauds that occur through social media. He called for awareness of citizens by going to school, college, development block and panchayat level. Home Minister Shri Tamradhwaj Sahu said in the program that usage of internet and technology is increasing in everyday life. While it has given many facilities to the people, its misuse by people of criminal tendency is increasing cyber crimes. By infusing technology and exploiting fear, criminals are committing new types of crimes. These can be controlled only by the state-of-the-art facilities and technology of investigation. The police department is continuously adopting new techniques for research of crimes and maintaining law and order. He asked the Home Department officials to keep complete arrangements and preparations according to future needs. Shri Sahu informed that for better coordination and guidance between the field stations and the State Cyber Police Station, such cyber police stations will also be established in all police range headquarters.
Special Director General of Police, Shri R.K. Vij said in the program that under the Information Technology Act (as amended) -2000 in the State Cyber Police Station, major cases will be registered and investigated. Remaining cyber cases will continue to be registered in normal police stations as before. Along with deliberating important cases, this station will not only guide all district units on information technology related matters, but will also carry out coordination related tasks in various portals and inter-state matters related to cyber crime of the Central Government. Officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police have been made investigating officers in the State Cyber Police Station. He informed that a lab has also been established at the Police Headquarters to check the electronic evidences. In the inaugural function of the State Cyber Police Station, Inspector General of all Police Ranges, senior officers of various branches of Police Headquarters and Superintendents of Police of many districts also participated in the video conference.

11 killed as bus falls into gorge in Poonch
At least 11 people were killed and 19 others injured Saturday when a passenger bus skidded off a road and plunged into a deep gorge in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The accident occurred at Plera when the driver of the bus, coming from Loran to Poonch, lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curve and rolled down into a 100-meter gorge, a police official said.
Quoting preliminary information, he said 11 persons were killed on the spot while 19 others were injured in the accident.
The death toll is expected to go up as the condition of most of the injured was stated to be “critical”, the official said.
A rescue operation is on and further details are awaited, he said.

A dreaded woman Naxal, who was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on her head, was gunned down by security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, police said.
The skirmish took place in the evening in a forest near Chitalnar and Dondipadar villages under Pushpal police station limits, in which Military Platoon Commander Jyothi Muriyami was killed, state’s Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI. “A team of state’s District Reserve Guard (DRG) that was out on an anti-Naxal operation, reached the forest of Chitalnar and Dondipadar, located around 500 km away from the capital Raipur when it came under heavy fire from a group of ultras that led to a gun-battle,” he said.
After the exchange of fire ended, the body of the woman Naxal cadre was recovered from the spot, the DIG said.
Muriyami was active as a commander of Peoples’ Liberation Guerrilla Army platoon no. 31 of Maoists and was carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh on her head, he added.
“She was a hardcore cadre in Kanger Valley area along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border area and has been instrumental in executing several deadly incidents,” he said.
Further details are awaited as the search operation was still underway in the region, he added.
