  • Mother kills 8-year-old son for finding out about relationship with neighbour in Noida

    By PTI

NOIDA: A woman allegedly killed her eight-year-old son for having seen her with a neighbour she was in an illegitimate physical relationship with, police said on Wednesday.

Four persons including the woman and her partner have been arrested for the child’s murder, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Anil Kumar Yadav said.

The woman has been identified as Bhuri (45) and her partner as Ompal Singh (53) who works as a keyman in the Railways and lived in Greater Noida.

The child was first poisoned by the mother and later dumped in a water body in Sambhal district, police said.

The police said they have also arrested Manak, Bhuri’s brother-in-law and the child’s uncle who helped them in dumping the body.

The father-in-law of the child’s step-sister Amar Singh was also arrested for his involvement in hiding the boy’s body.

The child’s father Kalyan, unaware of his wife’s illicit relationship, had lodged a missing person’s complaint after the boy’s disappearance on July 2, police said.

The FIR was lodged three days later on July 5 at the local Badalpur Police Station, they said.

On July 7, the body of the child was found in Sambhal district, and the post-mortem report showed ‘drowning’ as the cause of his death, DCP Yadav said.

The boy’s father informed the police that Sambhal was his native place, the officer said.

During the probe it came to light that the boy’s mother Bhuri, the main accused in this case, had an illegitimate relationship with Ompal Singh.

“On the night of June 28, the child had seen Bhuri and Ompal together,” Yadav said.

“The mother and her partner decided to eliminate the child, fearing he would reveal their relationship to others which would result in shame for them among their families and community,” the officer said.

The child had gone missing on July 2 and the family lodged a missing person’s complaint only on July 5.

“Bhuri knew his whereabouts. She knew the boy had gone to the house of his married sister, from Kalyan’s first marriage,” he added.

“On July 6, she went to the daughter’s home, took the boy with her and gave him sulphas poison,” he added.

Amar Singh, who did not want to get into any legal trouble due to the child’s attempted murder in his house, contacted Manak to get rid of the boy, Brahmpal Singh, in-charge of Badalpur Police Station told PTI.

Manak, the uncle of the boy, agreed to help as he was also involved in an illegitimate relationship with Bhuri in the past, the police officer added.

Amar Singh and Manak took the child to Sambhal and dumped him in a water body, where he died, DCP Yadav said.

All four accused admitted to hatching the conspiracy on being questioned, police said, adding that Ompal and Bhuri are the primary planners.

The FIR was first lodged under IPC Section 363 (missing person) and later sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 34 (Act done by several people with common intention) and 506 (criminal intimidation) were added to the case, police said.

The accused were produced in a local court on Wednesday from where they were sent to judicial custody, police added.

  • ‘Killed her because I got scared’: UP man who kidnapped toddler, kept body in bag

    By PTI

NOIDA: The Noida Police on Tuesday said they have arrested a man who is accused of killing his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter whose body was found stuffed in a backpack hung behind a door at his rented accommodation.

The accused Raghvendra alias Raghav Singh was arrested on Tuesday from a prepaid taxi booth near the Ghaziabad railway station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Rajiv Dixit said.

Singh had kidnapped the toddler on April 7 from her home in the Devla village and wanted to demand ransom for her release after he learnt that her father had made some money recently, he said.

A missing person’s complaint was lodged at the local police station the next day.

While the police had launched an investigation to find the child, her body was found on April 9 from Singh’s accommodation after other residents of the building noted a foul smell emanating from it, Dixit said.

The accused and the victim’s family live as tenants in the same building in the Surajpur police station area, he said.

The body was stuffed in a backpack and there was no one in the house as Singh had fled after strangulating the child to death with a shawl, which has also been recovered upon his arrest on Tuesday, the officer said.

Both the accused and the girl’s father are daily wage earners.

Singh lived in the rented house with his wife and two children, aged 3 and 9, and all had left home some 20 days ago, according to the police.

“Upon questioning, the accused told the police that he had thought of kidnapping the child with the intention to demand a ransom from her family. He had come to know that the girl’s father had made some money recently and was planning to construct a house,” Dixit said.

“When we asked him why he killed the toddler if all he wanted was ransom money, the accused told the police that he got scared that he would get caught and his plan would be revealed. Otherwise, he said he would have returned the child to her home upon getting the money,” the additional DCP said.

Singh is a native of Ballia district in eastern Uttar Pradesh and had gone untraceable since the killing, the officer said, adding that multiple police teams were formed to ensure his arrest at the earliest.

“Police teams were sent to his native place as well as to locations where he had relatives but the breakthrough came when our surveillance team traced him in adjoining Ghaziabad, from where he was nabbed this morning. An FIR was lodged under the Indian Penal Code section 363 (missing) initially but later charges under section 302 (murder) were also added to the case, the police said.

After pushing the woman Tuesday evening, the colleague had fled with her body to Ghaziabad and was on his way to Meerut when the police nabbed him, they said.

The duo had been working together since the last few years and were in a long relationship, too, but recently, the woman had ended it but the man allegedly continued to bother her about it.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ashutosh Dwivedi said the sector 49 police station officials were alerted on Tuesday evening about a woman jumping off an office building and who was later taken to a hospital by her family.

“At the hospital, the accused Gaurav said he is the brother of the deceased woman. Later, it was found that he is not the brother but an ex-boyfriend. It was also found that the woman no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him,” Dwivedi said.

He added that Gaurav kept asking her to get back into the relationship. Following that, the woman had registered a complaint with the police on September 29.

“Both their families were present at the police station when Gaurav gave a written assurance promising that he would stop bothering her,” Dwivedi said.

On Tuesday evening, the accused once again met with the woman at the office building and tried to force her into staying in contact with him after which he pushed her off the building, the officer said, citing preliminary investigation.

“He then tried to flee with the body. He first went to Ghaziabad, then tried to go to Meerut. He was not responding to phone calls. He was tracked through electronic surveillance and was held from Ghaziabad by a police team which was accompanied by the family of the deceased,” Dwivedi said.

NOIDA: Amit dreamt of donning Army fatigues and was preparing for the next recruitment process, while pursuing his college education and also working as a labourer.

On Tuesday, those dreams came crashing down.

The 18-year-old was the youngest of four labourers killed when the boundary wall of a housing society collapsed on them at Jal Vayu Vihar in Sector 21 here.

Twelve labourers were buried under the rubble while repairing a drain adjacent to the wall, police said.

Amit’s uncle Vinod, who was also present at the spot, said he was his family’s sole breadwinner.

“Amit’s father is a farmer and his mother a housewife. He enrolled himself in a bachelor’s programme in Ujhani area in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh two days ago and came here for work,” Vinod said.

He was passionate about the Army and was preparing for the upcoming recruitment.

Running every morning was part of his routine, Vinod said.

“During the last recruitment process, he was two months short of eligibility and was planning for the next batch in six months,” Vinod said.

Amit came to Noida for work to support his family and fund his education.

His family is planning to fix his elder sister’s marriage and that was also on his mind, Vinod added.

“I was also working at the spot when the incident happened. The contractors did not provide any safety gear,” he said.

“A total of 12 labourers were pulled out of the rubble. Four of them died while others suffered injuries,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ashutosh Dwivedi told PTI.

Amit’s family members are now travelling to the national capital to take his body to their native place for his funeral.

The other deceased have been identified as Pushpendra Singh (25) and Panna Lal (25) from Badaun and Dharam Veer from Sambhal district, the police said.

The injured was identified as Pappu Singh (25) of Badaun.

He is undergoing treatment at the district hospital, they added.

Noida Authority CEO Ritu Maheshwari has ordered a joint investigation by the police, district administration and the Noida Authority.

The police have detained a sub-contractor, Gul Mohammad, who supplied labourers for the job, an official said.
