    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Cautioning people that the threat of COVID-19 remains, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged them to shed vaccine hesitancy and get themselves inoculated soon.

In his monthly Mann ki Baat broadcast, Modi hailed the feat of most vaccination doses administered in a single day on June 21 at the start of the new phase of inoculation under which all adults are being given free jabs.

Seeking to make people shed vaccine hesitancy, Modi spoke to residents of Dulariya village in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh and counselled them to take the vaccine amidst their doubts about the exercise.

He noted that both he and his nearly 100-year-old mother have taken both doses of the vaccine, and asked people not to believe in rumours and trust science and scientists.

“The threat of COVID-19 remains and we have to focus on vaccination as well as follow COVID-19 protocols,” he said.

With the Monsoon approaching, Modi also stressed on water conservation.

In his broadcast, he also paid tributes and remembered the contribution of Indian sprint legend Milkha Singh, who died earlier this month.

Modi hailed Singh’s contribution to Indian sports and said he will always cherish his interactions with the athlete.

Singh died in a Chandigarh hospital after a month-long battle with COVID-19.

He also lost his wife Nirmal Kaur, a former national volleyball captain, to the same disease.

Modi also shared the struggles and triumphs of Olympics-bound Indian athletes and said that people must not build any pressure on these sports persons but “cheer for India”.

“Every athlete who is going to Tokyo has worked hard.

They are going there to win hearts.

It must be our endeavour to support our team and not put pressure on the team,” he said.

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that providing medical grade oxygen to different states during the second wave of COVID-19 was a challenge but the Indian Air Force, the railways and scores of tanker drivers worked overtime to ensure that it was delivered to those in need on time.

In his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio address, he also touched upon his government’s seventh anniversary on Sunday and said the nation has followed the mantra of “sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas” in this period.

There have been many moments of national pride, he said.

Apart from many successes, there were some stern tests as well, he said, referring to the pandemic.

The nation fought its first wave with courage, and this too will be defeated, he asserted.

Speaking of various natural disasters, the prime minister said more lives were saved compared to the past.

He underlined that the Centre and the states are working together to mitigate the sufferings of the people.

Modi spoke with a liquid oxygen tanker driver, a woman railway driver and an air force officer involved in transportation of oxygen and related equipment to drive home the point on how these people are working overtime to ensure oxygen reaches those in need.

In normal times daily production of liquid medical oxygen was 900 MT, which has now risen over 10 times to nearly 9,500 MT, the prime minister noted.

  • Jharkhand Chief Minister’s “Mann Ki Baat” Swipe At PM After Covid Meeting

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s phone call to him on the COVID-19 situation in the country as the PM’s “Mann Ki Baat”, instead of business.

Mr Soren’s reaction came after PM Modi spoke to him and the chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana about the COVID-19 situation on Thursday.

“Today the respected Prime Minister called. He only spoke his “Mann Ki Baat”. It would have been better if he would have talked business and heard the issues,” the Jharkhand chief minister said in a tweet.

Official sources said Mr Soren was unhappy as he was not allowed to present the issues concerning his state before PM Modi and instead, it was only the Prime Minister who talked about the COVID-19 situation.

Jharkhand is among the 10 states and Union territories that are collectively accounting for over 75 per cent of daily COVID-19 deaths in the country, according to latest data. The others in the league are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.

Mr Soren said 108 more beds will be set up with the help of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), the country’s largest energy conglomerate.

CommentsOn Wednesday, the chief minister had digitally inaugurated 250 beds at a dedicated COVID health centre at Koderma.

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Modernisation in the agriculture sector is the need of the hour as already a lot of time has been lost, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday.

In his monthly Mann Ki Baat programme, Modi also hailed the world’s largest vaccination programme being carried out in India against COVID-19, and stressed on “dawai bhi, kadai bhi” (medicines as well as strict preventive measures).

Asserting that adopting modern practices in the agriculture sector is imperative, he said in every aspect of life newness, modernisation is essential.

“In India’s agriculture sector, modernisation is the need of the hour. It has been delayed and we have already lost a lot of time,” the prime minister said in his 75th episode of Mann Ki Baat.

“In order to create new employment opportunities in the agriculture sector, to increase farmers’ income, it is equally important to adopt new alternatives, innovations along with traditional agricultural practices,” he said.

The country has witnessed this during the white revolution and bee farming is also emerging as one such alternative, he said.

The prime minister’s call for embracing modern practices in agriculture comes at a time when hundreds of farmers have been camping at Delhi’s border points at Ghazipur, Singhu and Tikri since November last year demanding that the Centre repeal the three contentious farm laws.

The government has maintained that these reform laws will boost farmers’ income by bringing investment, modern practices and allow them to sell their produce anywhere across the country at best prices.

During his radio broadcast, Modi also recalled that in March last year the nation first heard about the Janata curfew.

The Janata curfew was imposed on March 22 last year on the prime minister’s appeal.

“From very early on, the people of India have put up a spirited fight against COVID-19,” he asserted.

Noting that around time last year, the question was whether there would be a vaccine for COVID-19 and by when would it be rolled out, Modi said it was a matter of pride that the world’s largest vaccination drive is underway in India.

Modi also said that India’s ‘Nari Shakti’ is excelling in the sports field and lauded the recent sporting feats of cricketer Mithali Raj and shuttler P V Sindhu.

On Mann Ki Baat completing 75 episodes, Modi said it seems like just yesterday when in 2014 “we began this journey” and thanked all the listeners.

“During Mann Ki Baat, we have discussed a wide range of subjects. We all have learnt so much. Diverse topics have been covered,” he said.

Mann Ki Baat completes 75 episodes at a time when India is looking forward to marking our ‘Amrut Mahotsav’, Modi said underlining the importance of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence.

“The sacrifices of our great freedom fighters must inspire us to think about our duties as a citizen. This is something Mahatma Gandhi talked about extensively,” he said.

He said he had been asked by a listener as to whether there was something he felt he had missed out on during his long years as prime minister and earlier, Gujarat chief minister.

“I pondered this over and told myself…I could not make myself learn Tamil! It is such a beautiful language which is popular all over the world. Many people have told me a lot about the quality of Tamil literature and the depth of the poems written in it. India is a land of many languages, which symbolises our culture and pride,” he said.

Stressing the importance of collective responsibility towards water conservation, Modi said, “In most parts of India, rainfall begins in May-June. • The PM, who was mentioned in Mann Ki Baat, convinces all of his bravery

Raipur news: Raipur. Sniffer Dog Cracker, who was posted on the Naxal front of Chhattisgarh, was martyred in the IED blast and saved the lives of the soldiers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted his courage by mentioning Cracker in Mann Ki Baat. CRPF 170th Battalion Commandant VJ Sundaram said the cracker was an expert in sniffing. He also identified the hidden IEDs in the depths. CRPF personnel were engaged in road safety operations on 7 April 2017 at Chinnakodepal in Bijapur. Maoists laid down a landmine along the road from Chinnakodepal on the side of National Highway 63 towards Modakpal. Cracker sensed this nefarious intentions of the Maoists and alerted the jawans.

Cracker’s courage can be gauged from the fact that after locating the IED, he not only prevented the soldiers from going ahead, but himself reached there and also informed the place of the IED by foot. At the time when the cracker was giving information about the landmine with his foot, IED blasted by the pressure mechanism. Cracker was killed on the spot in this. As well as assistant Avinash YS was injured. The cracker was brought to the Veterinary Hospital in Bijapur, where he was declared dead by doctors. Cracker was given a final farewell to the Guard of Honor in the presence of DIG Bijapur.

The landmines are available in Bastar region. Here the Naxalites cannot directly confront the security forces, so they resort to pressure bombs and target them with pressure bombs. Bombs planted by Naxalites in many places have been present in the same condition for years and they are destroyed whenever the pressure falls. These bombs are usually planted on footpaths and rough roads between forests, which is the search route for security forces. While defusing a similar IED, a key member of the bomb disposal squad was also killed a few years ago.
