  • Jammu and Kashmir: Mother, son burnt alive after LPG cylinder catches fire and explodes

    POONCH: A mother and her minor son were burnt alive after an LPG cylinder caught fire and exploded in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Thursday, officials said.

    The incident occurred in Chandimarh village of the Surankote subdivision.

    The deceased were identified as Hamida Begum (40) and Aqib Ahmed (4), police said.

    Three other family members, including the deceased woman’s husband and two children, narrowly escaped in the blast and subsequent fire, they said.

    At least one dozen livestock also died in the incident, they said.

    Deputy SP Surankote, Tanveer Jeelani said a major rescue operation has been launched and so far two people and twelve domesticated animals have died in the incident.

  • Domestic LPG cylinder price hiked by Rs 50

    NEW DELHI: The price of Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder has been increased by Rs 50.

    With the latest revision, domestic LPG cylinders will retail at Rs 999.50 in Delhi.

    Earlier this month, the price of commercial LPG cylinders had been increased.

    On May 1, the price of a 19-kilograms commercial LPG cylinder was increased by Rs 102.50, to Rs 2355.50.

    Recently, on May 1, oil marketing companies organized more than 5000 LPG panchayats on the occasion of Ujjwala Diwas, where apart from experience sharing, aimed at safe and sustained usage of LPG, all out efforts were made to maximize customer enrolment.

    Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a step toward social inclusion by providing Free LPG connection to every BPL household. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1, 2016 at Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. 

  • Three-year-old boy killed in LPG cylinder blast in West Bengal’s Malda

    MALDA (WEST BENGAL): A three-year-old child was killed in an LPG cylinder blast in West Bengal’s Malda district on Saturday, police said.

    The incident took place in Jadupur Nayagram village in Kaliachak police station area in the morning when the child, identified as Tabrez Sheikh, was playing near the kitchen when an LPG cylinder exploded, an officer said.

    The boy was critically injured and admitted to Kaliachak Rural Hospital, and later shifted to Malda Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, he said. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, the officer said, adding that further investigation is underway.

  • New price of LPG cylinders released, subsidy will not be available this month

    There has been no change in the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder of LPG in the country for the 7th consecutive month. At the same time, the price of 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has been increased significantly in the metro cities from 1 December.

    According to the website of IndianOil, the price of 14.2 kg non-subsidized LPG in the four metros of the country remains Rs 594 in Delhi, Rs 620.50 in Kolkata, Rs 594 in Mumbai and Rs 610 in Chennai.

    On the other hand, the price of 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has increased. From December 1, this cylinder price will be Rs 1296 in Delhi, Rs 1351.50 in Kolkata, Rs 1244 in Mumbai and Rs 1410.50 in Chennai. Earlier in November, its price was Rs 1241.50 in Delhi, Rs 1296 in Kolkata, Rs 1189.50 in Mumbai and Rs 1354 in Chennai.

    On December 1, the price of LPG has remained stable for the seventh consecutive month in metro cities. This means that LPG cylinders will also be made available in the month of December by the oil marketing companies at the same price as the previous month. The price of LPG cylinder is revised on the first date of every month in the country. In such a situation, it is certain that gas consumers will not get subsidy on gas cylinders in the month of October.
