    By PTI
MEDININAGAR: The Latehar district administration of Jharkhand has sought a report from officials of the Palamu Tiger Reserve in Betla National Park over the killing of a domesticated elephant by two wild tuskers.

A 40-year-old male elephant named ‘Kalabhairava’ was gored to death by the tuskers at Palamu Fort late on Monday night.

In a letter to the deputy director of the tiger project on Wednesday, Latehar Deputy Commissioner Abu Imran sought to know why was the elephant shifted from the designated shelter to another location and what steps did the forest ranger take at the time of the incident to safeguard the elephant.

It also sought to know whether the elephant was kept in a forest as per the central government guidelines.

The male elephant, along with two female elephants, was brought from Mysuru in Karnataka.

Though forest officials have claimed that they tried to scare away the wild tuskers by bursting crackers while they were attacking ‘Kalabhairava’, locals alleged that they were not present at the spot during the incident.

    Express News Service
RANCHI: Wild tuskers on Monday killed an ailing tamed elephant ‘Kal Bhairav’ which was chained for treatment at Betla National Park in Latehar.

Forest officials said by the time guards reached the spot, one of the wild elephants had already stabbed the tamed elephant by using its tusks killing it on the spot.

The incident took place at a camp where the pet elephant was undergoing treatment after a wound was spotted in one of its legs. Kal Bhairav was tied with a chain and kept separately from other pet animals in the camp, said the official.

“One of our tamed elephants was killed by two wild tuskers which entered into the camp in Batla National Park late on Monday evening. Though the forest employees present there tried to protect it by firing crackers, they failed to save the elephant.

It died after being stabbed by the tusk of one of the wild animals,” said Director of Palamu Tiger Reserve YK Das. The spat took place for over half an hour. The chain, with which Kal Bhairav was tied, was unclenched and was dragged to a few meters from the camp, he added.

According to Das, the incident probably took place out of enmity as Kal Bhairav was the only adult male in the group of tamed elephants, he added.

Kal Bhairav along with three other elephants was brought to Betla National Park from Karnataka in March 2018.

    Express News Service
RANCHI: BJP MLA and former minister Randheer Singh said in a public meeting that he will be compelled to ‘gherao’ police stations if people of his constituency are disturbed by police without any valid reasons.

Jamtara, considered to be an epicenter of cybercrimes in India, has been a hunting ground for cyber police from all over India. Many cases of digital fraud are traced out to this backward district of Jharkhand. Phishing callers in Jamtara are extraordinarily trained who generally use basic techniques to obtain bank account details from their targets after preying skillfully on their fears.

In a video, which has been made viral on social media, the BJP MLA could be heard saying that people of his constituency are unnecessarily being disturbed by the police without any reason.

“If our men are clever and able to cheat people in other states, why they are being disturbed by the police. Don’t you dare disturb poor people of my constituency? If I get mad, I will ‘gherao’ the police station,” said Singh. “Why do you get into the trap made by the people of my constituency?”, he asked.

Singh, however, appealed to the cybercriminals not to get indulged in big frauds.

“Your MLA gets disturbed as people are being arrested by the police every day and I have to make recommendations to release them,” admitted the MLA. He said that he is speaking the truth as nobody has ever succeeded in duping the people of his constituency in ATM fraud, he added.

“If money from other states is coming to our state, what could be better than this,” said the former minister.
