  • Elon Musk Plans To Stop Using Phone Number And Rely Solely On X For Texts And Calls |

New Delhi: Renowned tech billionaire Elon Musk has made headlines once again, this time with his announcement to discontinue the use of his phone number in favor of relying solely on the social media platform X for messaging, audio, and video calls.

“In a few months, I will discontinue my phone number and only use X for texts and audio/video calls,” Musk wrote on X. Musk’s decision is viewed as a way to boost the popularity of X’s audio and video calling functions. These features were first launched in October last year. Since then, Musk has been actively advocating for X to expand into a comprehensive application. (Also Read: Instagram Could Introduce AI-Assisted Messaging For Writing Messages: Report)

“Will it be encrypted or will the alphabet agencies be listening,” another user said. One more user mentioned, “Where will you receive OTPs for bank transactions?”. Meanwhile, X has topped Apple’s App Store charts in terms of downloads.

“X is now the #1 most downloaded app of any kind!,” Musk posted.

  • Elon Musk Terms India Not Having Permanent Seat In UNSC As ‘Absurd’ | world news

Tesla founder and owner of social media platform Musk made the remarks while replying to a post of American-Israeli businessman Michael Eisenberg who confronted Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres’ post backing Africa for a permanent seat.

“How can we accept that Africa still lacks a single Permanent Member in the Security Council? Institutions must reflect today’s world, not that of 80 years ago. September’s Summit of the Future will be an opportunity to consider global governance reforms & rebuild trust,” said Guterres.

To this, Eisenberg responded, “And what about India? Better yet is to dismantle the UN and build something new with real leadership.”

    And what about India?

Better yet is to dismantle the @UN and build something new with real leadership. https://t.co/EYpyooHaH4 — Michael Eisenberg (@mikeeisenberg) January 21, 2024

Musk responded to Eisenberg’s post saying there needs to be a revision of the UN bodies. “At some point, there needs to be a revision of the UN bodies. Problem is that those with excess power don’t want to give it up. India not having a permanent seat on the Security Council, despite being the most populous country on Earth, is absurd. Africa collectively should also have a permanent seat imo,” said Musk.

India has been vying for a permanent seat in the UNSC but its bid has been blocked by China time and again. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had questioned the credibility and effectiveness of the UNSC. PM Modi had once said that the credibility and effectiveness of global institutions is being questioned as there has been no change in these institutions despite the passage of time. “These institutions reflect the mindset and realities of the world 75 years ago,” he had said.

The reform of the United Nations Security Council has been under discussion for over a decade, yet member nations have not reached a consensus on the council’s size and whether additional nations should possess veto powers. Consequently, the Security Council still mirrors the global power dynamics of 1945, with the P-5 (the USA, UK, France, Russia, and China) retaining their privileged status as victors of the Second World War.

Countries such as India, Germany, Japan, and Brazil have been advocating for the acquisition of permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council. These nations aspire to have a more significant role in global governance and decision-making within the UN, reflecting their economic and geopolitical importance on the world stage.

  • Elon Musk’s X To Bring Audio And Video Calls For Android Users; Details Inside |

New Delhi: Elon Musk’s project in a recent update of X(formerly twitter) is unveiling a new functionality that enables Android users to initiate audio and video calls directly within the app. This information was shared by Enrique, an engineer at X, who mentioned that Android users can utilize this feature by performing a effortless app update.

Launched in its initial version on iOS in October, the calls feature enables users to connect directly on the platform without the need for phone numbers. X engineer Enrique on Friday announced in a post “Audio and video calls on X slowly rolling out for Android users today! Update your app and call your mother,”

This feature will be limited to premium users. Users can control their preferences for audio and video calls by going to Settings > Privacy and Safety > Direct Messages. Within these settings, users can specify who can start calls, with choices ranging from people in their address book, those they follow, and verified users. Users also have the option to choose multiple preferences from these categories.

X introduced a new entry-level paid subscription for verified organizations earlier this month available at $200 per month or $2,000 per year. This basic tier for verified organizations includes a gold check-mark badge and various extra advantages, providing a more affordable option compared to the “full access” tier which is priced at $1,000 per month.

The company recently clarified that the new subscription tier, tailored for smaller businesses offers subscribers benefits such as advertising credits and priority support. This strategic move is intended to assist smaller organizations in achieving faster growth on the X platform by providing them with a cost-effective yet impactful way to enhance their visibility and engagement.
