  • Rajnandgaon was known as Nandagram, read the history of Rajnandgaon

According to the ancient history of Rajnandgaon, the city is a part of Rajnandgaon district which is one of the historically rich places of India. The glorious past, beautiful nature and abundance of resources have made Rajnandgaon as one of the emerging cities of India. The city has a good history located in the central large ground. Ancient, contemporary and recent history of the city seems interesting and exciting. Rajnandgaon was one of the areas in ancient India that did not come to light in earlier days. The city was ruled by famous dynasties like Somvanshi, Kalachuri later Maratha. However, the city’s history is not to be deleted. Like other parts of India, Rajnandgaon was also a culture-centric city. In the early days the city was called Nandagram. The history of a small state then may not have been eventful, but it was enough to make a mark on the pages of city history.
Rajnandgaon state actually came into existence in 1830. Bairagi Vaishnav Mahanta today shifted his capital to Rajnandgaon. The city was named after the descendants of Lord Krishna, Nanda, Nandagram. However, the name was soon changed to Rajnandgaon. Due to the size of the state, Nandagram was generally ruled by Hindu caretakers. In the history of Rajnandgaon, he is known as Vaishnava. The kingdom was mostly under Hindu kings and dynasties. The palace, the streets, the old and historical relics of Rajnandgaon reflect the culture and glory of the bygone era.

British period Rajnandgaon: Rajnandgaon was an active place to live till the arrival of the British. In 1865, the British recognized the then ruler Mahant Ghasi Das as the ruler of Rajnandgaon. He was given the title of Feudal Chief of Rajnandgaon and was later given the right of timely adoption. Succession under British rule was passed by hereditary. Later the feudal chief of Nandagram was conferred the title of Raja Bahadur by the British. Succession was passed to the rulers like King Mahant Balaram Das Bahadur, Mahant Rajendra Das Vaishnav, Mahant Sarveshwar Das Vaishnav, Mahant Digvijay Das Vaishnav. Rajnandgaon was the capital city of the princely state and was also the residence of rulers. However, with the passage of time, the Mahanta rulers of Rajnandgaon became puppets of the British Empire. The story was no different from other parts of India. The once prosperous and prosperous state of India became a princely state of the British Raj in India, and then a virtual British-ruled state. Rajnandgaon After Independence: Rajnandgaon remained a princely state in the newly independent country called the Republic of the United Nations. In 1948, the princely state and the capital city Rajnandgaon was merged into the Durg district of Madhya Pradesh, later in central India. In 1973, Rajnandgaon was pulled out of Durg district and a new Rajnandgaon district was created. Rajnandgaon became the administrative headquarters of the district. However, in 1998, part of Rajnandgaon district was merged with a portion of Bilaspur district to form a new district in Madhya Pradesh. The district was named Kabirdham district. The history of Rajnandgaon changed course again in 2000. After a long demand, a new state was created from Madhya Pradesh and named as Chhattisgarh. Rajnandgaon became an important city and remained a separate district.
