COVID-19: Nine-day lockdown begins in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district

DURG: A nine-day strict lockdown began on Tuesday in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district to curb an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases.The city wore a deserted look as all shops and commercial establishments, except medicine stores and other essential services outlets, were shut and police teams patrolled important squares to check unnecessary movement of people.
The district administration had announced to impose a lockdown four days back so that people could buy essential items before the restrictions came into force.
“In view of a surge in infections in the district, it was necessary to impose a complete lockdown, a public relations department official here said.
The borders of the district have been sealed and only people with e-passes are being allowed to enter, he said.
Teams of police and municipal personnel are out on the streets to ensure lockdown regulations are not violated.
People are being allowed to step out of their homes for medical emergencies, COVID-19 testing and vaccination, he said.
Medicine stores, spectacles shops, petrol/diesel pumps and LPG cylinder outlets have been exempted from the lockdown purview.
Door-to-door delivery of milk has been allowed between 6 am to 7 am and 6 pm to 7 pm, while hawkers can distribute newspapers in the morning from 6 to 8.
Industries have been allowed to function with limited workforce, while factories, construction and labour works have also been allowed with guidelines issued in the past, the official added.
Till Monday, Durg district had reported 44,053 COVID- 19 cases, including 803 deaths.
Actives cases in the district stood at 12,589, as per official figures.
The district has recorded over 12,500 cases in the last two weeks.
Meanwhile, the central government has decided to deploy high-level multi-disciplinary teams in 11 districts of the state which have been witnessing a spike in cases and deaths due to the infection, officials said.
These teams will assist the state health department and local authorities in COVID-19 surveillance, control and containment measures, a senior health official here said.
The two-member team for each district consists of a clinician/epidemiologist and a public health expert, she said.
The teams will monitor COVID-19 management, especially in testing, surveillance and containment operations, enforcement of COVID-19-appropriate behaviour, availability of hospital beds, ambulances, ventilators and medical oxygen, among others, she said.
We are yet to get confirmation when these teams will reach the state, she added.

Local trains started between Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg and Dongargarh, proposed to run 19 more passenger trains
There is good news for the rail passengers of South East Central Railway. After 11 months, 12 local passenger trains started operating from today. The first train left for the fort. This will benefit railway passengers traveling short distances with the start of operation of local passenger trains.
The trains which have been started include local trains running between Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg and Dongargarh. At present, these trains will run as specials. Passengers will be allowed to travel by following the Kovid Guidelines.
After the start of local passenger trains on Bilaspur and Raipur route, now the possibility of resumption of local passenger trains on the second route has also increased. Railways have sent a proposal to start 19 more local passenger trains to the Railway Board. -
Cleaners, grocery shops, scrap shop fined
Municipal Corporation Durg Amla today imposed a fine of 200 to 1000 rupees for spreading dirt on a total of eight people including garbage dumping sweeper, Sahu Grocery shop, Kabadi shop, Devangan Auto Service Center, Parikh Garage, Buffalo Khatal on the road today. Health officer Durgesh Gupta, Daroga Raju Sing and other employees were present during the proceedings. It is worth mentioning that the cleaning work is being done by the Corporation Commissioner Indrajit Burman by inspecting the wards. JK Lakshmi Cement plant closed in Durg, this is the reason
After ACC Cement Company of the district, the environmental damage has fallen on JK Lakshmi Cement Plant. Due to violation of environmental rules and non-adherence to the guidelines of the government, the electricity department of JK Lakshmi Cement plant at Ahiwara has been cut after getting instructions from the Department of Environment. ED Sanjay Patel, fortification division of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board, said that the production has stopped completely after the power supply of the company has stopped. JK Lakshmi has not fully complied with the environmental regulations, and till the NOC is not received from the department, the power supply of the plant will remain closed.

Bhoomipujan’ for construction of boys hostel performed in Durg
Bhoomipujan’ for construction of Boys Hostel in Government Polytechnic College, Durg has been performed. Durg (urban) MLA Arun Vora and Mayor Dheeraj Bakliwal performed the rituals for the 50-seater hostel which will be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 190.19 lakh. The rituals for bhoomipujan ceremony of the hostel, warden room and canteen was performed in presence of professors and officers from Public Works Department. Speaking on the occasion, the MLA stated that consistent efforts are being made to provide better facilities to the students, adding that several students are from distant areas who study in the college. He said housing and canteen facilities within the college campus will help in saving time of the students. He also informed that demand have been also made for increasing the number of seats and opening diploma course of GST operation in the college so that students can take benefits of professional course. It is worth mentioning that previously, the MLA had also performed bhoomipujan for construction of 3 rooms with a cost of Rs 73 lakh, which is currently in progress. Name of Bemetra named after Vyomatara Rani, know full history
According to the Gazetteer of Durg district, the entire Durg district including Bemetara was previously included in the empire of Emperor Ashoka. In 1742 AD, this area remained under the Marathas and since 1853 the Bhosale king. It is said that in ancient times it was the kingdom of a queen named Vyomatara, after whom this city was named Bemetra. Later Zamindari system came into force here. The last landowner of here was Zarb Singh Verma. From 1857 to 1906, the entire fort was included in the Tehsil Raipur district. Bemetra was under Simga tehsil and Nawagarh area was in Bilaspur district. When Durg became a district in 1906, Bemetara was the main tehsil of the three tehsils of the district. From the earliest times the Bemetara tehsil consisted of Nawagarh, Berla and Saja blocks, which have also been with the newly formed Bemetara district since 1 January 2012.

Today, from the review meeting held at Thakur Pyarelal State Panchayat and Rural Development Institute, Nimora, the state Health Minister TS Singhdev inaugurated the dialysis center in Korba. After 5 districts Durg, Kanker, Bilaspur, Mahasamund and Bijapur in the state, Korba is the 6th such district where dialysis center has been established.
He told the Health Minister that for the first decades people of the district had to wander for dialysis 2-3 times a week. It also had to bear huge expenses, but now people of the area will be able to avoid these facilities after the dialysis center is built. He said that after this it is our objective to open dialysis centers in Jashpur and Surguja. With this, it is our goal to provide this facilities in the whole of Chhattisgarh.
Along with this, he spoke on universal health care and said that after tax from the general public, he should not be required to spend from his own pocket for health. We are working on spreading this scheme so much that it is available to the common man free of cost. Revenue Minister Jaisinghwal, National Health Mission Director Priyanka Shukla and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
