  • US Presidential Polls 2024: Donald Trump Wins South Carolina, Beating Nikki Haley In Her Home State | world news

In a setback for Nikki Haley, Donald Trump has won the GOP primary from South Carolina defeating Haley in her home state. Despite the loss, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley said she will continue running for Republican presidential nominee. Speaking in South Carolina's Charleston, Haley said, “I'm a woman of my word,” referring to her earlier remarks about staying in the presidential race until Super Tuesday. She said, “I'm not giving up this fight when a majority of Americans disapprove of both Donald Trump and Joe Biden.”

In contrast to her post-New Hampshire primary speech, Nikki Haley delivered her remarks with a more solemn tone. She expressed skepticism about the potential success of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in a rematch against US President Joe Biden, stating that “Trump drives people away.”

Acknowledging her significant defeat, Haley emphasized that “40 per cent is not some tiny group.” Despite losing four states to Trump, she pointed out that there are still numerous states where the voting process has not concluded.

While congratulating Donald Trump on his anticipated victory in the Palmetto State's GOP primary, Nikki Haley extended her gratitude to the voters for utilizing the power of their voice. She affirmed her love for the people of the state, celebrating their collective achievements and unity during challenging times and tragedies.

Meanwhile, Former US President Donald Trump did not mention Nikki Haley in his victory remarks after being projected as the winner of the South Carolina primary. Trump thanked his family, including his son Eric Trump, and Eric's wife Lara Trump, whom Trump has endorsed to be the next co-chair of the Republican National Committee. They were present on stage along with Trump.

  • Donald Trump Wins New Hampshire Primary Against Nikki Haley In US Presidential Run-Up | world news

NEW YORK: In a pivotal moment for the Republican presidential race, Donald Trump has emerged victorious in the New Hampshire primary, propelling him closer to clinching the nomination. The final outcome remains uncertain as the vote count continues, leaving observers to question if Trump has definitively knocked Nikki Haley out of the contest.

Haley’s Defiant Stance: Former UN Ambassador Warns Democrats Fear Trump

Following the vote, Nikki Haley, Trump’s sole remaining challenger, declared the race “far from over” and asserted that Democrats actively desire to face her former boss. Haley, 52, cautioned that Trump is perceived as the only Republican Joe Biden can defeat.

Challenging Path Ahead: Haley’s Upset Hopes Dashed Despite Strong Turnout

Despite a strong voter turnout in New Hampshire, Haley’s aspirations for a major upset were quickly dashed as projections indicated her defeat. Polls suggested that her efforts in the northeastern state merely created a speed bump, making the upcoming challenges, especially in her home state of South Carolina, crucial for her campaign’s survival.

Two-Person Race: Analysts Assess Trump Vs. Biden As The Main Showdown

With Trump’s dominant position in national Republican polling, analysts like Keith Nahigian view the race as a two-person contest between Trump and Biden. The former president’s message, a blend of personal grievance and right-wing culture war, has given him substantial leads, even as Haley questioned his mental fitness and warned of potential chaos.

Campaign Dynamics: Trump’s Strategy And Haley’s Attempt To Sway Independents

While Trump did minimal campaigning in New Hampshire, his message resonated with his base. Haley, on the other hand, sought to appeal to independents, hoping they would see her as a moderate alternative. Her efforts to convey that most Americans do not want a Trump-Biden rematch faced challenges, with Trump claiming false Democratic involvement in the Republican contest.

Biden’s Unofficial Victory: Democrats Defy Party Order In New Hampshire

Simultaneously, New Hampshire Democrats defied a national party order to hold their primary later. Despite the absence of official candidate paperwork, broadcasters projected Biden as a “write-in” winner, campaigning against Trump’s stance on abortion rights alongside Vice President Kamala Harris in Virginia.

Post-Election Statements: Biden Campaign Reacts To Trump’s Victory

After the New Hampshire results, the Biden campaign issued a statement, suggesting that Trump had “all but locked up” the nomination. Describing the MAGA movement as “election-denying” and “anti-freedom,” the campaign asserted its takeover of the Republican Party. In this evolving presidential race, the dynamics between Trump, Haley, and Biden are setting the stage for fierce competition with significant implications for the future of American politics.

  • Vivek Ramaswamy Quits US Presidential Race For ‘America-First Patriot’ Donald Trump | world news

IOWA: Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy who dropped out of the 2024 Republican presidential race after finishing fourth in the Iowa caucuses, has endorsed former President Donald Trump and urged Republican voters to put an “America First patriot” in the White House. Taking to social media platform want. Tonight I am suspending my campaign and endorsing Donald J. Trump and will do everything I can to make sure he is the next US President.”

The 38-year-old political novice said at a press conference at Des Moines, “There is no path for me to be the next president absent things that we don’t want to see happen in this country,” as reported by the Washington. Post. “We did not achieve the surprise we wanted to deliver tonight,” Ramaswamy said. Ramaswamy finished fourth in Iowa, according to CNN News projections, well behind Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

The biotech entrepreneur said he plans to appear with Trump in New Hampshire at a Tuesday evening rally. He further expressed his support for Trump, adding that he is extremely proud of the team, the movement, and the country. “Earlier tonight I called Donald Trump to tell him that I congratulate him on his victory. And now going forward, he will have my full endorsement for the presidency,” Ramaswamy said.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that a spokesperson for Ramaswamy’s presidential campaign expressed dismay at the result and said the campaign is “digesting and determining” as it looks ahead to the next stage. The Iowa caucus victory is considered the first step in Donald Trump’s bid to claim the Republican nomination in a third consecutive election. Incidentally, Trump had lost in the state eight years ago.

In a speech from his campaign headquarters in Des Moines in Iowa, Trump congratulated his opponents DeSantis and Haley both of whom he thought “did very well.” He also praised Vivek Ramaswamy for doing a “hell of a job,” CNN reported. “They are very smart, very smart people, very capable people,” Trump said of his opponents.

According to the latest figures by CNN, after 96 percent of results were released, Ramaswamy is projected to win only three out of 40 delegates in Iowa. Ramaswamy had been one of Trump’s staunchest defenders against the four indictments leveled against him. He pledged to remove himself from the ballots in Colorado and Maine after the former president was disqualified from the two states. He even vowed to pardon Trump of all charges on his first day in office.

  • David Bowie’s son slams Donald Trump for using his dad’s music

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Duncan Jones has slammed Donald Trump after the former President used one of his father’s music icon David Bowie’s old records during a political rally.

The former US President recently announced his third bid for the White House, and Duncan Jones – who is an outspoken critic of Trump – has expressed his frustration at his dad’s music being played at Trump’s rallies, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

The 51-year-old film director – who has previously tried to block Trump from using his dad’s records, including his hit single ‘Heroes’ – said on Twitter: “Pretty sure he’s just doing that now to wind me up.”

However, Duncan also said that he’s virtually powerless to do anything about it. He said, “I have been told there is little we can do about it.”

Meanwhile, Elon Musk has put Trump’s potential Twitter return to a public vote.

The 51-year-old businessman recently acquired the micro-blogging platform in a $44 billion deal, and he’s now said that the former US President could return to Twitter after he was suspended in 2021.

Above the voting buttons, Elon wrote: “Reinstate former President Trump (sic)”

The Tesla boss followed his initial tweet with a Latin expression that translates to “the voice of the people is the voice of God.” Elon later added: “Trump poll getting 1M votes/hour! (sic)”

The Tesla boss has recently approved the decision to reactivate the Twitter accounts of Kathy Griffin and Jordan Peterson.

However, he claimed at the time that the “Trump decision has not yet been made.”

Trump, 76, was suspended from the platform in January 2021, following the attack on the Capitol Building in Washington.

The micro-blogging platform explained that the account was being suspended due to “the risk of further incitement of violence.”

Twitter said in a statement: “After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them – specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter – we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

  • Trump invokes Fifth Amendment, declines to answer questions about his business dealings

    By PTI

NEW YORK: Donald Trump invoked the Fifth Amendment and wouldn’t answer questions under oath in the New York attorney general’s long-running civil investigation into his business dealings, the former president said in a statement Wednesday.

Trump arrived at state Attorney General Letitia James’ offices in a motorcade shortly before 9 am, before announcing more than an hour later that he “declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution.”

“I once asked, If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’ Now I know the answer to that question,” the statement said.

“When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors and the Fake News Media, you have no choice.”

As vociferous as Trump has been in defending himself in written statements and on the rally stage, legal experts say the same strategy could have backfired in a deposition setting because anything he says could potentially be used in the parallel criminal investigation pursued by the Manhattan district attorney.

Messages seeking comment were left with James’ office.

Wednesday’s events unfolded as a flurry of legal activity surrounds the former president, just days before, FBI agents searched his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as part of an unrelated federal probe into whether he took classified records when he left the White House.

The civil investigation, led by state Attorney General Letitia James, involves allegations that Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, misstated the value of prized assets like golf courses and skyscrapers, misleading lenders and tax authorities.

“My great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides,” Trump wrote beforehand on Truth Social, the social media platform he founded.

“Banana Republic! In May, James’ office said that it was nearing the end of its probe and that investigators had amassed substantial evidence that could support legal action against Trump, his company or both. The Republican’s deposition a legal term for sworn testimony that’s not given in court , was one of the few remaining missing pieces, the attorney general’s office said.

Two of Trump’s adult children, Donald Jr. and Ivanka, testified in recent days, two people familiar with the matter said.

The people were not authorized to speak publicly and did so on condition of anonymity.

It’s unclear whether they invoked the Fifth Amendment during their depositions.

When their brother Eric Trump sat for a deposition in the same investigation in 2020, he invoked the Fifth more than 500 times, according to court papers.

The three Trumps’ testimony had initially been planned for last month but was delayed after the July 14 death of the former president’s ex-wife, Ivana Trump, the mother of Ivanka, Donald Jr.and Eric.

On Friday, the Trump Organization and its longtime finance chief, Allen Weisselberg, will be in court seeking dismissal of tax fraud charges brought against them last year in the Manhattan district attorney’s parallel criminal probe, spurred by evidence uncovered by James’ office.

Weisselberg and the company have pleaded not guilty.

James, a Democrat, has said in court filings that her office has uncovered “significant” evidence that Trump’s company “used fraudulent or misleading asset valuations to obtain a host of economic benefits, including loans, insurance coverage, and tax deductions.”

James alleges the Trump Organization exaggerated the value of its holdings to impress lenders or misstated what land was worth to slash its tax burden, pointing to annual financial statements given to banks to secure favorable loan terms and to financial magazines to justify Trump’s place among the world’s billionaires.

The company even exaggerated the size of Trump’s Manhattan penthouse, saying it was nearly three times its actual size, a difference in value of about $200 million, James’ office said.

Trump has denied the allegations, contending that seeking the best valuations is a common practice in the real estate industry.

He says James’ investigation is politically motivated and that her office is “doing everything within their corrupt discretion to interfere with my business relationships, and with the political process.”

He’s also accused James, who is Black, of racism in pursuing the investigation.

    THERE IS NO CASE!

Trump said in a February statement, after Manhattan Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that James’ office had “the clear right” to question Trump and other principals in his company.

Once her investigation wraps up, James could decide to bring a lawsuit and seek financial penalties against Trump or his company, or even a ban on them being involved in certain types of businesses.

Meanwhile, the Manhattan district attorney’s office has long pursued its parallel criminal investigation.

No former president has even been charged with a crime.

In fighting to block the subpoenas, lawyers for the Trumps argued New York authorities were using the civil investigation to get information for the criminal probe and that the depositions were a ploy to avoid calling them before a criminal grand jury, where state law requires they be given immunity.

That criminal probe had appeared to be progressing toward a possible criminal indictment of Trump himself, but slowed after a new district attorney, Alvin Bragg, took office in January: A grand jury that had been hearing evidence disbanded.

The top prosecutor who had been handling the probe resigned after Bragg raised questions internally about the viability of the case.

Bragg has said his investigation is continuing, which could be behind Trump’s decision to decline to answer questions from James’ investigators during the deposition in a Manhattan office tower that has doubled as the headquarters of the fictional conglomerate Waystar Royco, run by a character inspired partly by Trump, on HBO’s ‘Succession.’

  • BMC claims monoclonal antibodies, given to Trump, successful in over 200 coronavirus patients

    By PTI
MUMBAI: Over 200 coronavirus patients at a civic hospital who were administered monoclonal antibodies showed a remarkable recovery following the treatment, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Monday.

Monoclonal antibodies made news as a treatment for COVID-19 when they were given to then US President Donald Trump in November last year after he tested positive for the disease on the election campaign trail.

It was described as an “experimental antibody cocktail” that was “one of the most promising candidates”.

The monoclonal antibodies treatment has proved successful for over 200 COVID-19 patients at the civic body’s Seven Hills Hospital at Andheri in western suburbs, the BMC claimed in a release.

After administering the cocktail, composed of Casirivimab and Imdevimab, cleared for use in mild to moderate cases of coronavirus in high-risk patients, only 0.5 per cent patients needed oxygen and the mortality rate was also reduced by 70 per cent, the release said.

The earlier requirement of 13 to 14 days of hospitalisation was also reduced to 5 to 6 days after the cocktail was given, it said.

The cocktail therapy is succeeding against the backdrop of the anticipated third wave of coronavirus, the BMC said, terming the “successful experimentation” with this drug combination a “respite” ahead of the third wave.

“Trump was given the same cocktail of drugs after he contracted coronavirus. Since then, his health has improved significantly,” the BMC claimed.

In India, the drugs were registered with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization on May 10, 2021, and have been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India, the BMC said.

A total of 212 COVID-19 patients were given this cocktail through saline at the Seven Hills Hospital.

Conclusions have been reached after the treatment of 199 patients, of which there were 101 patients in the 18-45 years age group, 45 patients in the 45-59 years age group and 53 patients above 60 years.

“Of the 199 patients, 74 have at least one co-morbidity,” the BMC said.

All the 199 patients were in the mild to moderate infection group, it added.

At the start of treatment, 179 had a fever, while 158 had a cough with or without fever.

Four patients were on oxygen support.

It was noticed that fever subsided within 48 hours after giving the cocktail medicine, the BMC claimed.

“Out of 199, only one person had to be supplied with oxygen. This proportion is only 0.5 per cent. It is a great relief, considering the amount of oxygen that was needed earlier for coronavirus patients,” the BMC said.

In the first and second waves, at least 20 per cent of the patients had to be given oxygen and five per cent of patients had to undergo intensive care (ICU) treatment, it said.

The civic body said monoclonal antibody cocktails can be given to patients above 12 years of age who weigh at least 40 kg.

No side effects have been reported in any of the patients, the BMC said, adding the death toll has also dropped by a staggering 70 per cent.

“This cocktail can be given to patients having diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, asthma and other acute respiratory diseases, high blood pressure, sickle cell, cerebral palsy etc,” the BMC said.

This treatment is also financially beneficial to the patients as there is no need for oxygen supply and other expensive medications, avoiding the need for hospitalization, it said.

“Considering the medical manpower, it is possible to provide treatment through OPD and as the duration of hospital stay of the patient is reduced, it will also help in relieving the work stress on doctors,” the BMC claimed.

  • Pro-Donald Trump film ‘Absolute Proof’ bags worst movie at 2021 Razzie Awards

LOS ANGELES: The election-fraud film “Absolute Proof”, singer Sia’s heavily panned directorial debut “Music” and Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor, were the top winners at the 2021 Razzie Awards, given to the worst movies and performances of the year.

The Golden Raspberry Awards, popularly known as the Razzies, were held a day before the Oscars night, as is the tradition.

“Absolute Proof”, directed by My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell, which claimed that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from former President Donald Trump, was named the worst picture at the ceremony, reported Entertainment Weekly.

The pro-Donald Trump film also bagged the worst acting title for Lindell for his appearance in the film as himself.

Sia’s “Music”, which was heavily criticized for its depiction of autism, took home three awards, including worst director, worst actress for Kate Hudson, and worst supporting actress for Maddie Ziegler.

Actor-filmmaker Sacha Baron Cohen starrer “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” won two Razzie awards, both for Giuliani for his infamous cameo in the film.

The film is nominated in two categories at the Oscars.

For the film, Giuliani was tricked into a fake “interview” with actor Maria Bakalova, nominated at the Oscars in the best supporting actress category.

The former New York City mayor was dubbed the worst supporting actor, and also won the award for worst screen combo-with his pants zipper.

The category included nominations like Robert Downey Jr and His Utterly Unconvincing “Welsh” Accent in “Doolittle”, Harrison Ford and That Totally Fake-Looking CGI “Dog” in “Call of the Wild” and Adam Sandler and His Grating Simpleton Voice in “Hubie Halloween”.

The award for worst screenplay went to Polish erotic romantic drama “365 Days” while Downey Jr starrer “Dolittle”, a reboot of the Eddie Murphy film series, bagged the ‘worst remake, rip-off, or sequel’ title.

A special Governors’ Award for The Worst Calendar Year ever went to 2020.

  •  Congress’ Amit Chavda blames Namaste Trump event for COVID-19 outbreak in Gujarat

    By PTI
AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Congress chief Amit Chavda claimed in the state Assembly that the Vijay Rupani government had ignored coronavirus outbreak warnings from the WHO as well as the Centre and had gone ahead with the mega event welcoming then United States President Donald Trump here.

The event, organised in the stadium in Motera here, was held on February 24 last year and over a lakh people attended.

“Following the COVID-19 outbreak in China, the World Health Organization had declared a health emergency on January 30 last year and had issued warnings to all countries. The Union government asked states not to hold large gatherings. Despite this, the Gujarat government organised Namaste Trump,” Chavda said in the Assembly on Saturday.

He was speaking on the motion of thanks after Governor Acharya Devvrat’s address in the House.

“When the government was supposed to warn the people about the outbreak, it went ahead and organised an event like Namaste Trump to satisfy the party’s political ambitions,” Chavda, MLA from Anklav in Anand district, alleged.

Refuting the allegations, Gujarat BJP spokesperson Yamal Vyas said, “There is no connection between the Namaste Trump event and the spread of the virus. While the event was organized in February, the coronavirus-induced lockdown was imposed in March.”

Gujarat reported its first set of COVID-19 cases, in Rajkot and Surat, on March 20, and, as on Saturday, has an infection tally of 2,72,811, including 4,414 deaths.
