    LUCKNOW: Melinda Gates, co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), appreciated the Uttar Pradesh government’s efforts towards the Covid-19 management and control of diseases like encephalitis in the eastern region, especially the Gorakhpur division.

    While paying a visit to CM Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday, Gates said that the way the state government carried out the anti-Covid vaccination leadership despite a huge population was worth learning. “The world should learn from the way vaccination was carried out in UP despite such a large and dense population,” she said.

    Gates also discussed the foundation’s (BMGF) deep ties with Uttar Pradesh saying: “We have been working here for a long time in the field of health and social security. It is a matter of happiness that we are able to provide facilities to the weakest sections of society. We intend to further improve ourrelations with UP in the coming times.”

    Apart from the improvement in infrastructure and logistics in the state during the last few years, she also mentioned the digital banking system. “The growth of UP has been exemplary in the last couple of yearsand it is on the right track,” said Gates.

    She further discussed the crucial role played by women’s self-help groups in making the nutrition mission a big success in Uttar Pradesh. Gates also praised the efforts that are being made to increase the income of farmers by promoting the formation of FPOs in the largest agricultural state of the country.

  • UP proposes to develop ‘State Capital Region’ on lines of NCR amid increasing population pressure

    LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has made a proposal to develop a ‘State Capital Region’ (SCR) afloat on the lines of ‘National Capital Region’. The proposed SCR will be inclusive of seven districts including the state capital Lucknow and adjoining Kanpur covering a total area of 28,000 square kilometres.

    While issuing the directives to officials concerned over the proposal, CM Yogi Adityanath named it Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (UPSCR). The CM stressed the need to develop UPSCR to ensure the planned development of some of the cities in the wake of increasing population pressure.

    In a meeting with senior officials of the housing and urban planning department, Awas Vikas Parishad and all urban development authorities late on Friday night, the CM said that UPSRC should include districts like Unnao, Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat along with Lucknow.

    Seeking a detailed action plan to implement towards the development of UPSRC, CM Yogi said that since Lucknow was equipped with state-of-the-art urban and metropolitan facilities, people from different cities want to come here and make it their permanent abode.

    “The population is increasing in neighbouring districts as well and there are complaints of unplanned development which should be corrected as soon as possible,” said the CM.

    The CM also asked the concerned officials to start the development of the Lucknow Green Corridor at the earliest. To add to the development of the state capital Lucknow, the CM said that a proposal for the development of the next phase of the Lucknow Metro should be prepared and presented to him within a week as the users of the Lucknow Metro were increasing.

    Till 2019, about 72,000 passengers were using the metro daily. Proposed to establish a well-equipped convention centre in Lucknow to host major international events as, the CM said, the city of nawabs had its own significance in the scheme of things by virtue of being the state capital.

    “A proposal for a  project in an area of at least 35 acres should be prepared for the purpose,” he added.

    The CM sought a development plan for 13 major cities of the state including Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Jhansi, Mathura, Bareilly, Meerut, Agra, Chitrakoot, Varanasi and Prayagraj under the Leeds-2021 policy.

    Focusing on Ayodhya, given its importance due to the construction of the Ram Temple, the CM said that it should be developed as a solar city which will give the world the message of energy conservation. “Work on murals at historical places, Ram Katha gallery, open-air theatre etc should be completed in time and cultural mapping of the Ramayana tradition should be carried out. Ramayana galleries should also be constructed along the Ram Van Gaman Path,” he said.

    “The government will provide all urban facilities to Ayodhya while preserving its ancient culture,” CM Yogi added. Giving a further boost to spiritual and religious tourism, the CM directed the officials to complete the ropeway project for the darshan of Radha Rani in Barsana by December this year. Defining the role of development authorities in achieving the goal of making UP a USD 1 trillion economy, CM Yogi said planning for the next 50 years should be taken into account while scheduling development projects.

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been making frequent visits to meet the challenge of Corona infection. Simultaneously, AIIMS will undertake on-site inspection of Gorakhpur and will visit Ayodhya after inspecting all the arrangements made for the corona.   • UP CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurates Atal Bihari Vajpayee hospital in Lucknow

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee hospital COVID-19 hospital set up by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Lucknow.

    “This hospital is being started by DRDO and Army. In the first phase, 250 beds are being started out of which 150 beds will be in ICU and 100 isolation beds will be oxygen facilitated,” said CM Yogi.

    The 500-bed COVID-19 hospital of DRDO will be manned by medical officers and paramedical staff from the Armed Forces Medical Services.

    The hospital has 150 are ICU beds with ventilator facilities and 350 beds are with oxygen facility.

    There will be no charges for facilities available at the hospital. Food will also be provided to the patients free of charge.

    With the help of the state government, DRDO has made arrangements for oxygen and medical supplies which will also be providecd free of charge.

  • With eye on 2022, BJP pulls up its socks for UP panchayat polls

    LUCKNOW: For the upcoming rural body elections in Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is leaving nothing to fate. Considering it as the semi-final for next year’s assembly election, the saffron brigade has gone all out to leave its impact on the panchayat elections. From organising chaupals in 50000 villages across the state, the party reaching out to those at the booth level. 

    The party is ready to issue the list of candidates for the first and second phase of UP Panchayat Polls after a key meeting on Thursday at state party headquarters in Lucknow. All the regional presidents of BJP will be present in the meeting along with the list of candidates of their constituency.

    The meeting is likely to be attended by state BJP president Swatantra Dev Singh, state general minister’s organization Sunil Bansal, state in-charge of Panchayat elections Vijay Bahadur Pathak as well as state officials and regional presidents.

    The party insiders claimed that the BJP has chalked out a strong lineup of around 15000 programmes with workers participation in booth level seminars, kisan panchayats, district-level meetings for panchayat polls and now chaupals with a focus to strengthen the organisation at the booth level. The BJP workers have been reaching out to people with the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath-led government in the state.

    Party leaders undertook a campaign carrying the government’s achievement leaflets at the booth level on March 25 and March 26. The BJP is set to declare 3,051 district panchayat ward candidates for the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections. 

    With this, the party has decided to contest elections on 826 blockhead posts. In the panchayat elections, a mass contact drive is on reaching out to every voter at the ward level.

    As per the highly placed sources, the ruling party has planned big meetings at each district panchayat ward. There will be party-supported candidates for Gram Pradhan. The party has made a separate programme for farmers, youths and women. Till the booth level, the party has made its own team of fronts to reach out the voters and also to do the deep-rooted groundwork for Assembly elections through panchayat elections.

    On this connection, the regional chief of the party’s state unit will submit the list of candidates for the post of District Panchayat members of the first and second phase of the region. After discussing the names of the candidates, the State Committee will approve this list. If there is a disagreement on a seat, it will be resolved in the meeting as well.

    “The schedule has been announced by the Commission in a phased manner. The work of selection of candidates is going on. The party is going to contest the panchayat elections strongly,” State in-charge of BJP Panchayat elections Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

    While the nomination process for the first phase of seats is from April 3 and voting is on April 15, that for the second phase is from April 7 and the voting is on April 19.

    The UP gram panchayat elections 2021 will be a key test of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government’s popularity, and an opportunity for opposition parties to gauge the public mood, particularly as they come against the backdrop of persisting farmers’ protests in the country that have also gripped parts of UP.

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will distribute appointment letters to the newly selected 3,209 tubewell operators of the Irrigation and Water Resources Department on Wednesday under “Mission Rojgar”.

    On this occasion, the Chief Minister will also communicate with the candidates getting the appointment letters, via video conference.The state government has made this effort to provide employment to the youth. According to an official release, more than 3.5 lakh candidates have been employed in various state services so far, adopting a fair recruitment process by the state government.

    The UP CM was in Mumbai to launch Rs 200 crores Lucknow Municipal bond at Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Wednesday and meet several industrialists. Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Ministers Siddarth Nath Singh, Ashutosh Tandon, and Additional Chief Secretary (Information Department) Navneet Sehgal visited BSE on Tuesday to oversee the preparations for the listing ceremony.

    On Tuesday, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar called on Yogi Adityanath at a city hotel to discuss the immense possibilities of film shoots in the northern state.
