  • BJP: BJP hits back at Congress, says it is conveniently blaming its irrelevance on financial troubles

BJP chief J P Nadda on Thursday dismissed the Congress’ talk of financial helplessness as “comical”, and said the party can use the money accumulated from “all the scams” that took place during its rule for electioneering. The BJP’s reaction came after former Congress president Sonia Gandhi demanded that the party be given access to its bank accounts to ensure a level playing field for the Lok Sabha polls and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making a systematic effort to cripple the party financially.

In a post on X, Nadda said the Congress is “conveniently blaming” its irrelevance on financial troubles’ while in reality, their bankruptcy is “moral and intellectual, not financial”.

“The Congress is going to be totally rejected by the people and fearing a historic defeat, their top leadership addressed a press conference and ranted against Indian democracy and institutions,” he said Instead of correcting their own errors, the Congress is blaming authorities for their troubles. Be it the ITAT or the Delhi High Court, they have asked the Congress to comply with the rules, pay the taxes due but the party never did so, Nadda said.

“For a party which has looted from every sector, in every state and at every moment of history, to talk of financial helplessness is comical. Congress can use the money accumulated from all their scams starting from jeep to chopper scam via Bofors for their electioneering,” the BJP chief said.

“Congress part time leaders say India being a democracy is a lie- may I humbly remind them that India was not a democracy only for a few months between 1975 and 1977 and that time the Prime Minister of India was none other than Indira Gandhi,” the BJP chief added.

  • PM Meets Amit Shah, BJP Chief Amid Buzz Over Possible Cabinet Expansion

Narendra Modi is reviewing the performance of select ministries, especially in the second wave of Covid, in a series of meetings beginning Thursday, sources say amid reports of a possible cabinet expansion.

A meeting on Friday evening between the BJP’s Big Three — PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and party chief JP Nadda – signals big changes ahead based on the assessment of how the ministers performed. Some ministers were also present at today’s meeting.

There is also talk of a major social scheme to be announced in the next few days as the party preps for important elections next year, including in Uttar Pradesh.

The Prime Minister held a similar meeting for well over five hours yesterday at his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg home with seven ministries and assessed the work done by them during the April-May Covid crisis, when the scale of virus cases and deaths were seen to have caught the government unprepared. Dharmendra Pradhan, Prakash Javadekar and Hardeep Puri were among the Union Ministers he met.

Sources said it is an annual exercise that usually takes place before the anniversary of the Modi government but was delayed this time due to the pandemic.

Since it is a performance review, it has fueled speculation of a cabinet expansion, said to be long overdue. There are around half a dozen ministers who hold more than one ministry.

The Prime Minister can have up to 79 ministers, which means there are more than two dozen vacancies in the Union cabinet.

The review meeting comes days after the Prime Minister announced that the centre would take back control of vaccination from states and provide vaccines free of charge to all above 18 from June 21.

Yesterday’s meeting, sources say, began at 5 pm and continued till 10 in the night. Mr Nadda was also present.

The ministries made brief presentations on various decisions taken by them, sources in the government said.

Under review were Petroleum Ministry, Steel Ministry, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change.

  • TMC government did nothing to uplift Muslims: Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh

    By PTI
KOLKATA: West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday said Muslims haven’t received their dues under the Mamata Banerjee-led government, and it’s time the minority community secures its rights.

Speaking at a public meeting in Howrah, Ghosh said the TMC had been pursuing “politics of appeasement”, but the party did nothing to uplift the financial status of Muslims.

“If the TMC has so much love for the Muslims, why are they so poor? The Sachar Committee had said Muslims of Bengal are very poor,” he stated.

Ghosh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gesture to provide food grains to all amid the COVID-19 pandemic was meant to benefit all, irrespective of their religious beliefs.

“In West Bengal, Muslims are saddled with police cases for various crimes such as cattle smuggling,” the senior BJP leader said.

He alleged that foodgrains sent to West Bengal by the Centre have been siphoned off to Bangladesh.

“Today, Muslims in Bengal have realised (TMC’s intentions) and are ready to secure their rights.

If Hyderabad-based AIMIM wants to contest the assembly polls here, then why is Didi (Mamata Banerjee) unnerved? If the AIMIM wants to establish its presence here, it should.” the saffron party leader added.

Ghosh further asserted that the BJP will never walk the path of appeasement.

“If you all think that the BJP works for people, then vote for us,” he said.

The state BJP chief also said that all those who want to join the saffron party would be accommodated.

“We need a large number of workers to build ‘Sonar Bangla’ (golden Bengal),” he added.

Referring to Mamata Banerjee’s jibe that BJP leaders are “outsiders”, Ghosh said there are numerous people from Bengal who are working outside the state.

“If these people are termed outsiders and driven out from their places of work, will Didi be able to provide jobs to them? Business entities owned by the Goenkas, Birlas and Jindals are providing jobs to thousands of people here, are they outsiders?” he added.

  • WB govt denies permission to Amit Shah’s rath yatra

The West Bengal government has refused permission to BJP president Amit Shah’s proposed ‘rath yatra’ from Coochbehar on grounds that it might cause communal tension, the state’s advocate general informed the Calcutta High Court on Thursday.

Kishore Dutta told the court that the Coochbehar superintendent of police refused permission for the BJP president’s rath yatra from Friday.

The state submitted that it might cause communal tension.

Asked by the judge who will take responsibility if anything untoward happens,  BJP counsel Anindya Mitra submitted it is the duty of the state government to maintain law and order.

The advocate general opposed the BJP filing a supplementary affidavit opposing the refusal of permission, saying it can either come with a fresh petition or an amendment to his petition.

  • Rahul Gandhi insulting slain Army soldiers: Shah

BJP chief Amit Shah Saturday alleged that Congress president Rahul Gandhi was insulting slain Army soldiers by claiming that the 2016 surgical strike across the LoC was conducted to win the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

He said that today Army jawans have developed a sense of pride that their government is standing behind them rock solid.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi took revenge for Army martyrs. Rahul Gandhi is saying that surgical strike was conducted to win Uttar Pradesh election. You insult the martyrs of the country. You could not even show some courage,” Shah said at a public meeting in Phalodi town of Jodhpur district in Rajasthan.

Addressing a gathering at Udaipur in poll-bound Rajasthan earlier Saturday, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the surgical strike was made public as the BJP was fighting elections in Uttar Pradesh.

He also told the gathering, “Like during the Narendra Modi government, surgical strike was conducted thrice during Manmohan Singh government. Are you aware of it? Modi actually reached into the Army’s domain and shaped surgical strike into a political asset.”

Hitting out at the Congress, Shah said, “On one hand there is a troop of patriots under leadership of Narendra Modi and on the other hand there is a troop which doesn’t have a leader, policy and principles.”

He also took a dig at Gandhi’s party for not declaring its chief ministerial candidate, and wondered how can an “army” win which has not been able to finalise its leader.

  • Cong has no leader, no programme: Amit Shah

BJP president Amit Shah said Tuesday the Congress has “no leadership and no programme” as he addressed a public meeting in Rajasthan, which goes to the polls on December 7.

At a meeting in Jalore, he reiterated that the BJP government was committed to sending back illegal migrants.

The point was also made in the manifesto released Tuesday by the ruling party in Jaipur ahead of the assembly polls.

“I want to say once again that the BJP is going to form the government here,” Shah said.

“The Congress is just dreaming of forming the government but the party has no leadership and no programme,” Shah said.

He said the BJP will also retain power in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Praising Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for financial management, he said the BJP government increased the state’s revenue and put it on the path of growth and development.

“The Congress did nothing to address the issue of illegal migrants,” he said.

  • Oil price cut shows Modi government’s sensitivity to people’s welfare: Shah

BJP president Amit Shah said Thursday that the reduction in petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.50 a litre shows the Narendra Modi-led government’s sensitivity towards people’s welfare.
Soon after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the cut, Shah tweeted his response in which he also welcomed the decision.
At a press conference, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra expressed the hope that people will get a total relief of Rs 5 at the earliest as the Centre has asked states to effect an equal amount of tax cut in the oil prices.
He also took a swipe at the previous Congress-led government at the Centre, saying it had “pawned” national resources by issuing oil bonds while the Modi government showed its sensitivity by reducing the prices.
The government has also expressed confidence it will fulfil its fiscal deficit targets, Patra noted.
The government Thursday announced a Rs 2.50 per litre cut in petrol and diesel prices after it reduced excise duty by Rs 1.50 a litre and asked oil companies to absorb another Re 1.
