    Express News Service
PATNA: Putting an end to all political speculations, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said that his party has not made any offer to CM Nitish Kumar, even if the latter deserts the NDA.

Replying to a media query,  Yadav categorically denied that any offer has been made to Nitish Kumar from his party adding that there was ‘no question’ of approaching him (Nitish Kumar).

“It is wrong to ask such a question. Bihar’s mandate is against Nitish Kumar.  They have no policy, no ideology.  They are neither for the poor nor for the labourers, ” he asserted.

“We are ready to go for mid term polls in Bihar, ” he said, adding the state government’s days are numbered.

He also added that there has been a big loss of Bihar within the last 16 years.  “The NDA government is a curse for the state. They have increased unemployment. The JDU-BJP combine stole the mandate of people, that had been given to the Mahagathbandhan,” he alleged.

Yadav also dubbed the NDA as “greedy for power”.

Former CM and Tejaswi’s mother, Rabri Devi, and many other senior RJD leaders including Uday Narayan Choudhary and Shyam Rajak had said that if Kumar comes quits the NDA and wants to join the Mahagavabdhan, the alliance will consider him but on a condition that he must support Tejashwi’s candidature for the next Chief Minister of the state.

Kumar was offered to be projected as the opposition’s PM face for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

But JDU has refused to accept any such offer and dubbed it a desperate move by the opposition to consolidate power.

  • Villagers in Bihar carry corpse to bank to withdraw funeral money

    By AFP
PATNA: The corpse of an Indian farm labourer was carried to the bank by his neighbours to demand money for his cremation, police said Thursday.

Mahesh Yadav, 55, died early Tuesday in a village in the eastern state of Bihar after a lengthy illness, leaving no family. His body was found by neighbours several hours later, officials told AFP.

The villagers searched his home for valuables to pay for his funeral, but unable to find any, they instead took his bank passbook that showed he had some Rs 1,17,500 in his account.

That afternoon, they took the passbook — and Yadav’s corpse — to his bank, refusing to leave until the branch manager released his funds, local police officer Amrendar Kumar said.

“Villagers demanded the bank gave them money from his account for the cremation or else they would not cremate him,” Kumar told AFP.

“It put pressure on the bank, which finally released some money following the intervention of the local police station.”

Canara Bank’s branch manager Sanjeev Kumar said the extraordinary scenes created panic.

“It was the first such case,” Kumar told AFP.

“After over an hour, I gave them money (Rs 9,914) and they finally left the bank with his body for the cremation ground.”

Neighbour Shakuntala Devi said Yadav did not own any land and did not receive any support from the government.

“There was no-one to look after him although he had been ailing for months. We used to provide him cooked food and other things,” she told AFP.

  • ‘Political jealousy’: Ex dy CM Sushil Modi accuses Lalu Prasad Yadav of ‘destabilising’ Bihar govt

    Express News Service
PATNA: Political slugfest ensued in Bihar when BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi accused incarcerated RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav of making attempts to destabilize the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government from his jail cell in Ranchi.

Alleging Yadav of violating jail rules, Modi said that the former has been passing regular instructions via phone to his party members as to how to go about the ‘plan’.

It may be recalled that it was Sushil Modi who released an audio clip wherein he claimed Yadav was luring a BJP MLA to remain absent during the election of the assembly speaker.

Modi said a strong alliance between Bihar and JD-U, barring a few months in between, has been in place in the state for almost two decades and that the RJD is burning in ‘political jealousy’ over it.

“..A short bad phase came and passed but the people have given us an opportunity to serve the state once more,” he added.

Mutual respect and trust in the NDA have kept the alliance afloat and rescued the state from ‘dark ages’, the former deputy CM said.

“Electricity has reached every village in the state. Bihar is out of the ‘lantern era’. The state has also got new institutions of higher education but the opposition has no agenda but to ruin it all again,” he said.

Modi said that the government is working on a plan to extend employment to 20 lakh people and the Department of Industries intends to introduce a ‘single window system’.

The RJD had earlier offered a chance to Nitish Kumar to join the Grand Alliance after quitting the NDA and become the opposition’s projected PM candidate for 2024 general elections, in lieu of extending support to Tejashwi Yadav as Bihar’s next Chief Minister.

An offer JD-U rejected with the party’s national president, RCP Singh, categorically stating that JD-U doesn’t need anyone’s help. “We (JDU) will stay ahead because of our strength”, Singh said.

  • RJD will never be able to return to power, says RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha

    Express News Service
PATNA: RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha, who was once part of Grand Alliance in Bihar along with the RJD, claimed that the RJD will never be able to return to power in the state. Speaking to local media on Saturday, Kushwaha said that the people have given the mandate to Nitish Kumar to run the government.

“In such a situation, where the people’s mandate has been given to Nitish Kumar to lead the NDA government, RJD shouldn’t daydream of returning to power,” he said.

Kushwaha, who recently had met CM Nitish Kumar after his party failed to win even a single seat in the Bihar assembly, further made a prediction that the RJD, even in future, wouldn’t be able to come into power in the state.

“The RJD leaders should take it from that their party wouldn’t be able to return to power, even in future,” he added vehemently.

Upon being asked, Kushwaha said that it wouldn’t be prudent politically to predict the fall of a government that has been formed a month ago. “But I think, RJD shouldn’t be daydreaming of coming into power now in Bihar,” he asserted.

When asked about the defection of six JDU MLAs to BJP in Arunachal Pradesh, Kushwaha very shrewdly refrained from making any comment on it. He only said that it was a matter between JDU and BJP, beyond the concern of RLSP.

He also said that though his party couldn’t win a single seat in the assembly election, there is no doubt that the RLSP has expanded its political base in the state.

When he was categorically asked about the speculation of his return to NDA after he met Nitish Kumar, Kushwaha denied it far from the fact.
