BJP delegation meets Jharkhand Governor for appointing Babulal Marandi as leader of opposition
By PTI
RANCHI: A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday met Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention in appointing Babulal Marandi as leader of Opposition in the 81-member state assembly.
Former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi was on February 24, 2020 unanimously elected as leader of the BJP Legislative Party.
Marandi had on February 17, 2020 merged his Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) (JVM-P) party with the BJP at a formal merger ceremony in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Ranchi.
The delegation led by party state president and parliamentarian Deepak Prakash informed the Governor that the BJP legislative party leader Babulal Marandi has not been accorded the status of leader of opposition even after two years.
Talking to media persons, Prakash said, “Bharatiya Janata Party has unanimously elected the first Chief Minister of the state and Rajdhanwar legislator Babulal Marandi as the legislative party leader. But it is unfortunate for the state that even after a gap of more than two years Marandi has not been given the status of leader of opposition by the Speaker of the Assembly.”
Prakash alleged that the Speaker is not taking decisions at the behest of the state government. “This government does not want to run the house by constitutional procedures but like a dictator, he alleged.
Jharkhand BJP has been demanding Babulal Marandi, a former JVM-P chief who joined BJP after 2019 assembly elections, to be declared as leader of opposition.
The saffron party had not elected its Legislative Party leader after the state polls in November-December 2019.
With the arrival of Marandi, the BJP’s number has swelled to 26 in the Jharkhand Assembly.
The ruling JMM-Congress-RJD has a combined strength of 47 in the House.
The ongoing Budget session of the Jharkhand Assembly that started on February 25 will continue till March 25.

Ex-Jharkhand CM Marandi’s political advisor arrested for sexually harassing his 18-year-old domestic help
Express News Service
RANCHI: The police have finally arrested Sunil Tiwari, the political advisor of former Jharkhand chief minister and BJP legislative leader Babulal Marandi, for sexually harassing an 18-year-old tribal girl who was working as a domestic help in his house.
The arrest warrant was issued against Tiwari after the girl from Khunti filed an FIR at the Argora police station. In the FIR, she has alleged that he forced her into having physical relations with him and threatened to kill her if she discloses anything about these incidents.
The girl has also recorded her statement before the court under Section 164 after undergoing medical tests. She shared her ordeal with her parents a few days ago following which they decided to file an FIR.
Tiwari had moved a petition seeking anticipatory bail in the high court after a lower court cancelled it. However, before the court could make a decision on it, the police had already arrested him.
Even as the police are tightlipped on the incident, some sources have informed that the former political advisor was arrested from Etawah in Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has issued a notice to Jharkhand DGP and Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi, after the girl’s father filed a complaint alleging that the police took his daughter away and presented her before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) without mentioning any reason.
He further stated that the police also took away his family members from their house on Independence Day without informing him about their whereabouts. The girl was later produced before the CWC on August 16. It was claimed that she had been staying at the residence of Tiwari for an “unusually long time” despite not being a family member.

Arrest warrant against former Jharkhand CM’s advisor Sunil Tiwary in sexual harassment case
By Express News Service
RANCHI: A Ranchi Court has issued an arrest warrant Sunil Tiwari — political advisor of former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP legislative party leader Babulal Marandi — for sexually harassing an 18-year-old tribal girl. Tiwari is likely to be arrested at any point in time as the arrest warrant has already been received by the investigating officer.
The girl in her FIR alleged that Tiwari forced her into having physical relations with him and threatened to kill her if anyone learned about this. She has also recorded her statement before the court under Section 164 after undergoing medical tests.
The girl, according to police, shared the ordeal with her parents a few days ago following which they decided to file FIR in this regard.
Meanwhile, The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has issued a notice to Jharkhand DGP and Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi, after the father of the girl filed a complaint alleging that the police took his daughter away and presented her before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) without mentioning any reason.

The girl was later produced before the CWC on August 16. It was claimed she had been staying at the residence of Tiwari for an “unusually long time” despite not being a family member.
Marandi, when asked, alleged the FIR was filed against Tiwary after the latter knocked on the door of the apex court demanding a direction to the Mumbai High Court to hear the matter related to allegations of sexual exploitation against the Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Ex-Jharkhand CM Babulal Marandi’s political advisor booked for sexual harassment
Express News Service
RANCHI: An FIR has been lodged against Sunil Tiwari — political advisor of former CM and BJP legislative party leader Babulal Marandi — for sexually harassing an 18-year old tribal girl at Argora Police Station in Ranchi.
The police have swung into action after the FIR was lodged by the girl from Khunti, who used to work as a domestic help at Tiwari’s house.
The police, however, are tightlipped on the issue and reluctant to say anything in this regard. Sources claimed that the girl, in her FIR, has alleged that Tiwari used to make physical relations with her forcefully and even threatened to kill her if she tried to open her mouth to anyone.

“The girl has also recorded her statement in the court after undergoing the medical tests. She shared the ordeal with her parents a few days ago following which they decided to file FIR in this regard,” said a source in the police department.
Babulal Marandi said that police has become a tool of the state government, and the FIR is a reaction against the Mumbai model rape case against Chief Minister Hemant Soren as Tiwari is an intervener in the case being heard at Mumbai High Court.
“Since the case was being delayed in Mumbai High Court, he has filed a writ application in Supreme Court on August 5 which is likely to be heard on August 23. It is nothing but an effort to malign his image as a reaction to the intervention application filed by him in Mumbai High Court,” said Marandi. He demanded a fair probe either by CBI or a committee headed by a sitting High Court Judge.
Meanwhile, JMM spokesperson said after rejoining the BJP, Marandi has been hiding the wrongdoing of its leaders. It seems Marandi has signed some sort of annual maintenance contract (AMC) with the party, he said.
