  • “We are also saying we should get back PoK but…”: Asaduddin Owaisi attacks BJP

Amid a debate on Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi asked the BJP on Wednesday what they have done in the last 10 years to get back PoK?

Owaisi also mentioned that he also wants that PoJK should be included in India but this issue only comes forward during the elections.

“Now they (BJP) are not saying ‘400 paar’. The real issue is that the prices of petrol have crossed Rs 100 and the incidents of paper leaks are taking place in Varanasi, from where PM Modi is a candidate. They talk about Pok, but what have they done in the last 10 years to get it? We are also saying that PoK is a part of India and we should get it back but the issue of PoK only comes forward during elections,” he said.”All the promises that they made in the last 10 years turned out to be false,” Owaisi added.AllUttar PradeshMaharashtraTamil NaduWest BengalBiharKarnatakaAndhra PradeshTelanganaKeralaMadhya PradeshRajasthanDelhiOther StatesNotably, the Bharatiya Janata Party have racked up the PoK issue in their campaign across the country. • Hyderabad Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP’s Madhavi Latha Faces Stiff Competition From Asaduddin Owaisi |

New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi is all set to contest elections for the fifth term. However, the leader of AIMIM is confronted with a strong contender from the BJP – Madhavi Latha. On Friday, Asaduddin Owaisi submitted his nomination for the prestigious Hyderabad constituency. The constituency is long held as a stronghold by the Owaisi family.
    Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM)

Owaisi has represented Hyderabad in the Lok Sabha since 2004 for four consecutive terms. Owaisi has previously served twice as an MLA in the then undivided Andhra Pradesh.

    Owaisi’s Dominance Over Hyderabad

Since 1984, the candidates associated to the Owaisi family have consistently emerged victorious in Hyderabad, with Asaduddin Owaisi currently occupying the seat. AIMIM has maintained a strong grip on the city with its vote share steadily rising. The vote share has reached 59% in the 2019 general elections.

The Owaisi family’s dominance in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency spans over four decades. Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, Asaduddin’s father, has been elected MP from this seat six times between 1984 and 1999.

Following his father’s retirement from active politics in 2004 due to health reasons, Asaduddin Owaisi carried forward the family legacy. Owaisi secured convincing victories in the 2004, 2009, and 2014 general elections. However, the upcoming Lok Sabha battle poses a promising challenge from the spirited BJP candidate Madhavi Latha.

    Madhavi Latha (BJP)

Madhavi Latha holds degrees in Public Administration and Political Science. She gained prominence for her contribution in the campaign against instant triple talaq, a stance contrasting with Owaisi’s opposition to the law. On the other hand, Owaisi viewed triple talaq as an encroachment on Muslim rights.

Beyond her activism, Latha is an entrepreneur and a Bharatanatyam dancer. She is the chairperson of Virinchi Hospitals in Hyderabad.

    Lok Sabha Elections 2024

The electoral contest for the two Lok Sabha seats in the old city, Hyderabad and Secunderabad, is slated for May 13, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.

Hyderabad: BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Hyderabad, Madhavi Latha took a sharp jibe at the sitting MP and AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi. She said that she has been provided with Y+ Security to fight for the truth. “Asaduddin Owaisi has friendships with the kings’ group…He keeps quiet when atrocities are inflicted on women,” Latha said. Further, she said, “Who is giving him (Asaduddin Owaisi) death threats?… Look at the level of his friendships. • After Owaisi, Akhilesh Yadav To Visit Mukhtar Ansari’s Family; Know Arithmetic Behind Power-Tussle |

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will be visiting the family of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari today. Ansari was cremated last month in his hometown Ghazipur. Since then, there has been political bickering over his death with the opposition parties demanding a probe and the government ordering it.  While AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi visited him this week, Akhilesh Yadav’s visit holds a significant space in the state’s political dynamics. Ansari’s brother Afzal Ansari is contesting the Lok Sabha polls on the Samajwadi Party ticket from Ghazipur. He is the sitting MP from the seat. However, Mukhtar Ansari’s influence is not limited to just one seat.

    Mukhtar Ansari And UP Politics

According to reports, the political parties are trying to cash in on the resentment among Muslims after the death of Ansari. There are 28 districts in Purvanchal. It has a population of 83% Hindus and 17% Muslims. Of these, five districts have a greater Muslim population. These districts are- Balrampur with 37% Muslim Population, Bahraich 34%, Shrawasti 31%, Siddharthnagar 29% and 23%. Mukhtar Ansari’s popularity and fear were such in Purvanchal that he won elections from prison. Mukhtar Ansari has been a key factor in eight Lok Sabha seats in six districts. These are – two seats each in Ghazipur and Jaunpur, Mau, Azamgarh, Varanasi, and Mirzapur.

    Samajwadi Party’s Purvanchal Bid

By visiting Ansari, Akhilesh is looking to win over Muslim votes in an attempt to bag these seats. The BJP is looking to clean sweep Uttar Pradesh but the SP in alliance with Congress is not looking to sit back and just watch the game. It has planned to once again tap the M-Y (Muslim-Yadav) combination to defeat the BJP.

    Vote Equation In Uttar Pradesh

On these crucial seats, the M-Y combination has often emerged as a winning combination. On the eight seats of Purvanchal, there are 17% Muslims, and 13-14% Yadav and together they form around 31% of the votes. The BJP claims to have the support of 9-10% Brahmins, 6-7% Rajputs, 3-4% Rajbhars, 5-6% Kurmis and 4% Mauryas and these account for around 29-30% of voters. Then there are 20-21% SC voters. The swing in SC votes thus becomes crucial for winning.

  • Atiq Ahmad murder: Owaisi demands resignation of UP CM, SC-monitored probe

    By PTI

HYDERABAD: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday attacked the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh over the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the incident and urged for a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the matter.

Alleging that the BJP was running the government in Uttar Pradesh by “rule by gun” and not rule of law, Owaisi said this had been continuing ever since the BJP government was formed in 2017.

A day after Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in Uttar Pradesh, the Hyderabad MP termed the killings cold-blooded murder.

“You see the way the weapons were fired. It is cold-blooded murder and they (those involved in the killings) are professionals. How much is the role of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh government and who are these people who in the presence of police and media resorted to cold-blooded murder? Who told them? What is their background and why didn’t the police stop them? And for this it is needed that Supreme-Court-monitored investigation should be done into this incident,” Owaisi told reporters here.

Condemning the incident, the AIMIM chief said it is not only Indian Muslims, but all those citizens of the country who believe in rule of law and the Constitution, “all of them feel weak today”.

He charged that there was radicalisation in the majority community.

“Who are these people? Those who were involved in yesterday’s killings if they are not related to the Uttar Pradesh government. I am raising a question. I don’t know if they are related or not. And how did they got radicalised? How come they got these weapons?” Owaisi asked.

“These are highly radicalised elements. Who are these people, after firing (they) raise religious slogans What will you call them if not terrorists? Will you call them ‘Desh Bhakts’? Will you garland them?” he asked and slammed those who were celebrating the incident.

Owaisi said the entire responsibility lay on the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

“We demand the resignation of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. The Supreme Court should suo-motu take cognisance of the matter and form a team to investigate the incident and there should be no officials from Uttar Pradesh in that team. I plead to the Supreme Court,” Owaisi said.

The team should carry out investigations in a time-bound manner and it should report to the Supreme Court, he said and demanded that all those police personnel who were present there (during the incident) be removed from service.

Atiq Ahmad (60) and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.

  • Attack on Owaisi in UP: Supreme Court quashes HC order granting bail to two accused

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday quashed an Allahabad High Court order granting bail to two men accused of firing at AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi’s vehicle in Uttar Pradesh in February and gave them one week to surrender.

The top court said the seriousness of the alleged offence has not been considered by the high court.

A bench of justices M R Shah and M M Sundresh said the high court did not accord any reason while giving bail.

The apex court remanded the matter back to the high court for fresh consideration and directed Sachin Sharma and Shubham Gurjar to surrender before the police within a week.

The top court also directed the high court to decide the bail applications of the two accused within four weeks from the date of surrender.

“Having gone through the impugned judgement of the high court, it can be seen that there are no reasons given at all by the high court while releasing the accused on bail.

“It has also not given any prima facie opinion on material collected during the course of the investigation which is now forming the part of charge sheet. Even the seriousness the offence alleged has not been considered by the high court. In that view of the matter, the impugned judgement of the high court needs to be quashed and set aside,” the bench said.

In his petition before the apex court, Owaisi challenged the bail granted to them, saying this was a classic example of a disproportionate amount of prejudice and hate-related crimes leading to the incident of an attempt to murder and the target was a known MP.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief’s car was attacked in Hapur while he was returning to Delhi after attending election-related events in western Uttar Pradesh on February 3, a week before assembly polls began in the state.

Later, the police arrested three persons — Sharma, Gurjar, and Aalim — for their alleged involvement in the incident.

The top court in September dismissed the challenge to the bail granted to Aalim.

In his plea, Owaisi submitted that after accused Sachin came out on bail, he again threatened the petitioner with serious consequences.

The said statement made in public is grave and requires to be taken into cognisance.

More importantly, the accused has not denied his involvement rather it appears that he is taking pride in undertaking this crime, the plea said, adding that Owaisi was the victim of the incident of this attempt of murder by the accused whose action was recorded in CCTV footage which was now part of the charge sheet.

After the arrest of the accused, the police said two pistols were seized from their possession and a Maruti Alto car was also impounded.

The FIR was lodged at Pilakhua Police Station under various provisions of the IPC, including Section 307 (attempt to murder).

  • Owaisi’s Party leader offers biryani to new entrants to boost membership in Madhya Pradesh

    By PTI

BHOPAL: A leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has been offering biryani and breakfast to new entrants in the outfit in Narela Assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal as part of a drive to increase the party’s base in the region.

The party led by Asaduddin Owaisi had for the first time contested the recently held urban bodies’ polls in the state and secured seven seats of corporators.

“We are welcoming people who did not get due respect in their parties, whether it was the BJP or Congress. When they come to our office to join the outfit, as a mark of respect, we offer them biryani or breakfast such as samosas and tea, like we do to guests in our homes,” AIMIM leader Peerzada Tauqeer Nizami told PTI.

Nizami said new entrants are garlanded and offered food in keeping with their respective religious practices, he said.

“They should feel that they have come to the right place. I listen to their problems and make efforts to sort them out,” he said.

More than 20,000 people have joined the party so far during the ongoing drive, the AIMIM leader claimed, adding that the move will be replicated by the party in other Assembly segments of Bhopal after Diwali.

“We had organised a public meeting of party president Owaisi in Narela during the recently held urban bodies’ elections,” Nizami said, adding that he was told to work for the party in Bhopal.

  • ‘What about 16 crore jobs promised in 2014?’ Owaisi asks Centre on recruitment drive

    By PTI

HYDERABAD: Flaying the Prime Minister’s announcement on a mass recruitment drive in the next one year, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday sought to know what happened to Narendra Modi’s 2014 assurance of creating two crore jobs per year.

Owaisi claimed that the PM’s announcement came following his recent speech at Bhuj in Gujarat where he shared employment data provided by BJP leader and MP Varun Gandhi.

“We would like to ask the Prime Minister. Is it not true that you had assured the country in 2014 that you will provide two crore jobs every year. So, you are supposed to provide 16 crore jobs in eight years,” he said.

“Now, you made the announcement, because Parliamentary, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat assembly elections are approaching. You tell us what happened to 16 crore jobs. Why you did not give?” Owaisi asked while interacting with reporters.

Modi has asked various government departments to undertake recruitment of 10 lakh people on a mission mode in the next 1.5 years.

The Hyderabad MP also hit out at the NDA government over price rise and unemployment.

Finding fault with the bulldozer demolition drive carried out by the Uttar Pradesh government against alleged rioters, Owaisi said, “Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has become a super Chief Justice. In his court, he will convict people and demolish houses.”

The house of Afreen Fatima (activist), which was demolished in Prayagraj, was in the name of her mother, he claimed.

The AIMIM leader dared the Yogi Adityanath-led government to demolish the house of Ashish Mishra Teni, who is accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.

“This is example of open hate against Muslims. BJP people are giving collective punishment to Muslims,” he said.

If there is evidence, the accused should be arrested and convicted in the courts, Owaisi said.
