  • YouTube will remind users to ‘keep comments respectful’ before posting

YouTube is taking new steps  to weed out bullying, hate speech and other kinds of nasty comments. The company introduced a new feature that will remind users to “keep comments respectful,” when its automated systems detect a comment may be offensive. The change is rolling out now on Android, and will eventually move to other platforms, though it’s not clear when.

The feature is similar to one recently implemented by Instagram. Before a comment is posted, a pop-up will appear with a reminder to “keep comments respectful.” The user will then be able to edit the comment or post it anyway. The company notes that seeing the reminder doesn’t necessarily mean a comment has violated its rules or that it will be removed.

The update is part of a larger effort by YouTube to reduce hate speech and make its platform more equitable for all its creators. In addition to the new pop-ups, it will also test a new feature for YouTube Studio that automatically filters out “potentially inappropriate and hurtful comments” to make it easier for video creators to avoid seeing them.

The company will also undertake a new effort beginning next year to evaluate bias in its monetization features. YouTube says that while it’s “heard concerns” from some creators, it doesn’t currently have a good way to look into these claims because the company doesn’t have data on how its video creators identify.

  • vivo now has a new launch date for Origin OS – November 18

Vivo will introduce its fans to a “brand new world,” as the slogan for its new Origin OS says. The company was expected to unveil the interface on November 19, during VDC 2020 (vivo Developers Conference), but now we know it will actually be officially introduced a day earlier – November 18.

The Origin OS now has its own Weibo page, and the first post unveiled the date when a “Special Event” will take place in Shenzhen, China. The location isn’t surprising – it is the city next to vivo’s home of Dongguan and is part of the local so-called Silicon Valley, where many Chinese tech companies are based.

Vivo has not said a lot about Origin OS – we expect a simpler and more understandable design, features that are appealing and easy to use for customers outside China, and one rumor said there’ll be an easy switch between the company’s OS and stock Android. We’ll know more next Wednesday, but we do expect vivo to tease some new features until the official event takes place.

  • Older Android phones will start to fail at web browsing in 2021, here are all the details

Are you using an old Android phone? Maybe it’s time for you to upgrade your phone. As per reports, you will no longer be able to access any secure websites from your old Android deuces running 7.1.1 Nougat or later. The devices will receive certificate errors if users try to access a secure website from the phone.

As per a report published on Android Police, users will no longer be able to access any secure websites. This means that the websites would not open on your old Android devices that are running on dated operating systems. The websites will either encounter issues or fail to load completely if the proper certificates are not installed on your devices.

Now, this is happening because Let’s Encrypt has announced that its partnership with certification authority IdenTrust will end on Sept. 1, 2021. There are apparently no plans to renew. For the uninitiated, Lets Encrypt is one of the world’s leading certificate authorities and its certifications are used by approx 30 percent of web domains.

“Five years ago, when Let’s Encrypt launched, that’s exactly what we did. We got a cross-signature from IdenTrust. Their “DST Root X3” had been around for a long time, and all the major software platforms trusted it already: Windows, Firefox, macOS, Android, iOS, and a variety of Linux distributions. That cross-signature allowed us to start issuing certificates right away and have them be useful to a lot of people. Without IdenTrust, Let’s Encrypt may have never happened and we are grateful to them for their partnership. Meanwhile, we issued our own root certificate (“ISRG Root X1”) and applied for it to be trusted by the major software platforms,” Lets Encrypt said in its blog.

  • Will iPhone XR Be the Perfect iPhone for India in 2018?

From losing key executives to losing the top spot in the premium smartphone market, 2018 has been a difficult year for Apple in India. But with the “most affordable” new iPhone of the year launching in India and elsewhere on Friday, the Cupertino giant will hope to entice buyers — new and old — in the market.

The new model features an iPhone X-like display notch that includes the TrueDepth camera system, the technology that enables facial recognition feature Face ID. It also has the same A12 Bionic SoC that is powering the more premium iPhone XS Max₹ 99,300 and iPhone XS ₹ 91,788. Despite the similarities with last year’s iPhone X and the latest and the greatest iPhone models, the iPhone XR₹ 76,900 starts at Rs. 76,900, making it the most affordable phone that looks like the iPhone X. The price, however, is still higher than even premium Android smartphones that have much better specifications on paper.

Market analysts believe that it won’t be the spec-sheet that will persuade customers to pick the iPhone XR over a top-of-the-line Android smartphone.

“As compared to premium Android smartphones, the iPhone XR will fare poorly on a spec-to-spec comparison, including imaging or display,” observes Rushabh Doshi, Research Manager, Canalys. “However, Apple’s appeal is not in the internals or specs. Its stickiness is high, and users who wish to remain in the ecosystem will buy an iPhone XR.”

Tarun Pathak of Counterpoint Research echoes Doshi’s belief, pointing out that the iPhone XR could be a good upgrade for iPhone users who have skipped the previous-generation iPhone models.

“Hardcore Apple and rich affluent users will be willing to shell that price since it’s a status symbol for them, but then that section of users is small,” Pathak, Associate Director of Counterpoint Research, tells Gadgets 360. “However, we believe that Apple strategy in India should be to sell more iPhones rather than new iPhones. Given the stickiness of the iOS  ecosystem, these older iPhone users are likely to upgrade to iPhone only.”
