    Abdulnasser Alshaali, the UAE’s Ambassador to India, emphasized the significance of PM Modi’s visit, describing it as “very important” for fostering stronger bilateral ties between the two nations. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is slated to engage in discussions with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, focusing on avenues to bolster and broaden their strategic partnership.

    Inauguration of BAPS Hindu Temple

    Adding to the significance of the visit, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the first Hindu temple, Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandit, in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. This inauguration underscores the growing cultural exchanges and religious tolerance between the two countries.

    Shortly after his arrival here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for the BAPS Hindu Temple that will be inaugurated tomorrow and said that it reflects his love and respect for India. The two leaders also held a bilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi, during which MoUs were exchanged.
    He also thanked the UAE President for accepting his invitation to be the Chief Guest at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January.

    “Brother, firstly, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for your warm welcome…Whenever I come to UAE, I have always felt as if I have come to my own home, to meet with the members of my own family,” PM Modi said during the bilateral meeting. 

    Expressing gratitude for the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, PM Modi said that this couldn’t have been possible without his love and support. “I consider the construction of BAPS temple here as a reflection of your love for India and your vision for the bright future of UAE. This couldn’t have been possible without your support. During our first meeting, I had just put up a simple request for you to look into it and you took a prompt decision, asking me to ‘Put your finger on any piece of land, you will get it’. Perhaps, this level of love and trust showcases the unique relationship,” PM Modi said.

    Earlier, upon his arrival at the airport, PM Modi was welcomed by UAE President Al Nahyan. The two leaders shook hands and hugged each other. “Immensely grateful to my brother, HH @MohamedBinZayed, for taking the time to receive me at Abu Dhabi airport. I look forward to a productive visit which will further strengthen the friendship between India and UAE,” said PM Modi in a post on X.

    PM Modi will be in the UAE from February 13-14 after which he will proceed to Doha. 

  • Now, IIT Delhi to set up campus in Abu Dhabi; courses to begin from January 2024

    NEW DELHI: In yet another feather in the IITs’ cap, IIT Delhi is going global as it is all set to start an overseas campus in Abu Dhabi.

    The Ministry of Education and Abu Dhabi’s Education and Knowledge Department (ADEK) have signed an agreement for setting up the campus of IIT Delhi in the Gulf country.

    The new offshore campus will offer Master’s courses from January next year, while Bachelor’s degree programmes will be offered from September 2024.

    The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing visit to the UAE.

    The MoU is part of the “IITs go global” campaign. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi is the second IIT to announce the setting up of an offshore campus.

    Last week, IIT Madras signed an MoU for setting up its campus in Tanzania’s Zanzibar. The next IIT which will be opening its campus overseas is IIT Kharagpur. It will be setting up its campus in Kuala Lumpur.

    “MoU for establishment of @iitdelhi campus in Abu Dhabi in the presence of Hon. PM @narendramodiji unfolds a new chapter in the internationalisation of India’s education,” tweeted Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

    “An exemplar of #NewIndia’s innovation and expertise, the IIT Delhi campus in UAE will be an edifice of India and UAE friendship. It will set a brand new template for leveraging the power of knowledge for both mutual prosperity and global good as envisioned in NEP,” he added.

    Complementing the ongoing UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the MoU reflects the shared vision of both nations to prioritize educational excellence, innovation, knowledge exchange, and investments in human capital as the foundations for future prosperity and enablers of long-term economic growth and sustainable development, according to a statement issued by the union education ministry.

    IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi will complement the academic, research and innovation ecosystem in Abu Dhabi through collaboration with key players such as Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Khalifa University, New York University Abu Dhabi, Technology Innovation Institute, and Hub71 to offer complimentary programs, conduct cutting edge research, and advance the local startup ecosystem.

    The IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi campus is expected to launch its academic programs in 2024 and a host of bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programs, and operate research centres related to sustainable energy and climate studies, as well as computing and data sciences, the statement added.

    It is also expected to offer a diverse range of programs covering energy and sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, computer science and Engineering, Mathematics and Computing and other disciplines of engineering, sciences, and humanities.

    IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi graduates will join an illustrious alumni network of graduates from 23 campuses across India.

    IIT Delhi recently ranked among the world’s top 50 institutions for engineering and technology. It also scored a top 30 rank for global employability in the 2022 QS World University Rankings.

  • India declares one-day mourning to mark respect for UAE President’s death

    NEW DELHI: India has declared one-day national mourning on Saturday (14 May), as a mark of respect to his highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, who passed away on Friday.

    The national flag will be flown at half-mast on the day of mourning throughout India on all buildings where the national flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day.

    President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed condolences at the demise of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

    In their messages, they noted that he was a statesman and a visionary leader and recalled his contribution to the strengthening of India-UAE bilateral relations and the welfare of the Indian community in UAE.

  • Mumbai Indians fly in Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah to Abu Dhabi in charter

    NEW DELHI: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians has flown in skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav along with their families on a charter flight from Manchester to Abu Dhabi on Saturday morning.

    They will now undergo six days of quarantine and then will link up with the Mumbai Indians squad. Rohit, Surya and Bumrah tested negative for COVID-19 before departure from Manchester and after arrival in Abu Dhabi.

    “Mumbai Indians flew in three of its Indian contingent members, captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav, to Abu Dhabi on a private charter flight. The trio, along with their families, arrived today morning and will now undergo 6 days hard quarantine, starting today as per the IPL’s guidelines,” said Mumbai Indians in an official statement.

    “All members had returned negative RT PCR results before departure. A new RT PCR test was undertaken upon arrival at Abu Dhabi, which are negative as well,” it added.

    Chennai Super Kings players are also expected to land in Dubai on Saturday. “Now that the Test match is off, we are looking to get the CSK boys into Dubai tomorrow,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told ANI on Friday.

    Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is also arranging a charter flight to get Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj into Dubai on Sunday morning, ahead of the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. They will undergo a 6-day quarantine period before joining the team bubble.

    “Yes, we have arranged a charter flight for Virat and Siraj, both of them will be flying out at 11:30 PM UK time on Saturday and they will reach Dubai early Sunday morning. Safe transit of players is the utmost priority for RCB. They will undergo 6-day quarantine there before joining the team bubble,” an RCB source told ANI.

    Earlier on Friday, the 5th Test match between England and India was cancelled in Manchester. The BCCI and ECB held several rounds of discussion to find a way to play the Test match, however, the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Indian team contingent forced the decision of calling off the game.

    The 14th season of the IPL, which was postponed in May this year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume on September 19 in Dubai with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

  • Sushma to inaugurate Gandhi-Zayed digital museum for peace in UAE

    External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will inaugurate a digital museum in Abu Dhabi showcasing the life, works and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and the founder of modern UAE Shaikh Zayed.

    The Gandhi-Zayed Digital Museum, which will promote peace, tolerance and sustainability, is part of the celebrations to mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and centenary celebrations of the birth of Shaikh Zayed, an official statement said.

    Swaraj will be on a two-day visit to the UAE from December 3-4, where she will co-chair the 12th session of the India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting for Economic and Technical Cooperation with her counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

    The Museum will showcase rare photographs, videos and objects representing the life, works and philosophy of both renowned leaders.

    The soft launch of the museum will take place at the Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi, Indian embassy in the UAE said in a statement.

    The interactive museum aims to celebrate the similarities, the influence they had, and the change they caused.
