The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) is rewriting its future with a comprehensive restructuring aimed at long-term dominance. On April 21 in Kuala Lumpur, the association revealed its National Cricket Center and a slew of high-profile coaching changes, setting the stage for the next 10 years.

Dav Whatmore steps into dual roles as Cricket Director and senior men’s head coach, tasked with synchronizing the entire national system. From performance analytics to player pathways, his mandate is clear: create seamless coordination. Whatmore highlighted the need for a unified approach across youth and senior squads. ‘There’s raw potential and drive in Malaysia,’ he remarked. ‘Now, it’s about cohesion—one clear playing philosophy from U19 to seniors. My priorities: build squad depth, raise training intensity, and foster an elite environment for Asian and international competition.’

Notable hires include Rakesh Madhavan for senior women, Thushara Prabath Kodikara for U19 women, and M. Muniandy retaining his men’s ‘A’ team post. The crown jewel is the Bayuemas Oval-based National Cricket Center, a year-round hub for high-performance training and talent nurturing, led by Bilal Asad. He’ll bridge regional organizations and Centers of Excellence for uniform standards.

President Mahinda Vallipuram emphasized sustainability. ‘Facing major events like Asian Games and Olympics, we must solidify foundations,’ he noted. ‘Drawing lessons from leading nations, we’re fortifying systems and structures for unified progress.’

Fresh from hosting the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 final, this revamp capitalizes on positive vibes to cultivate a powerhouse talent stream, eyeing international glory in the years ahead.
