Shruti Ahlawat etched her name in Indian tennis history by clinching the singles crown at the ITF W15 tournament in New Delhi. The final on May 3 saw her dismantle Poland’s Zuzanna Kolonko with a commanding 7-5, 6-2, 7-6 victory, following a grueling week of matches at the DLTA Stadium from April 27 to May 3.

With 74 participants—62 from India—the event was a battleground for $15,000 in prizes and valuable WTA ranking points. Young sensation Jensi Kanabar, just 14, stole headlines by advancing to the singles quarterfinals, marking her as India’s youngest ever in a pro ITF women’s draw.

The doubles title went to Russian duo Zeniya Laskutova and Ekaterina Yashina, who overpowered Japan’s Arina Arifullina and Michika Ozeki 6-4, 6-3 on May 2. Their aggressive play and synergy turned the final into a showcase of top-tier teamwork.

Other notable Indians including Jheel Desai, Akanksha Nitture, and Sonal Patil delivered strong showings, reinforcing India’s stronghold. International rivals from Russia, Japan, the US, and Poland elevated the competition, giving home players invaluable experience.

As part of the ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour, this Delhi stop continues to propel Indian women toward international stardom, with Ahlawat’s win serving as a beacon for future successes.
