In a post-match press conference after Gujarat Titans’ dominant 7-wicket rout of Lucknow Super Giants, captain Shubman Gill showered accolades on his bowlers for simplifying his leadership role. Speaking at Ekana Stadium, he pinpointed their powerplay mastery and middle-over squeeze as pivotal in curbing LSG’s scoring.

‘The powerplay bowling was top-class, and the sustained pressure through the middle phase was phenomenal,’ Gill remarked. ‘It takes so much pressure off me.’ Rashid Khan earned the highest praise: ‘He’s our match-winner right now. Whenever a bowler struggles, Rashid delivers—wickets, maidens, unplayable stuff. Captaincy feels effortless with him around.’

Reflecting on strategy, Gill stressed basics amid chaos. ‘First six overs demand simplicity; you can’t overcomplicate when momentum shifts.’ He detailed standout performances: ‘The opening over set the tone perfectly. Length control in the third over swung it our way. Strong showings from the attack overall—Rabada’s length was impeccable, just a bit of misfortune with edges and boundaries.’

On the late surge by LSG, Gill was candid: ‘Last 2-3 overs cost us extra runs, around 10 more than ideal despite their collapse. But 160 was defendable; we’d have snapped it up early on.’ Buoyed by consistent partnerships with Buttler and his batting touch, Gill envisions a strong Titans push in the tournament.
