Elected for 5 years, can’t solve everything in 1st budget: Omar Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that people have elected them for five years and all issues cannot be solved in one go in the first budget.

“You should also know that we have been elected for five years, so it cannot happen that all the demands of the people will be fulfilled in one go in the first budget,” Abdullah told reporters here. The CM said that he was aware of the people’s expectations and his government will try to fulfill their demands and meet their expectations. “This budget will be a good begining and we will try to build a strong foundation on which we can capitalise in the next five years and work for people and solve their issues and problems,” said Abdullah. The budget session in J&K will start from March 3 in the winter capital of Jammu. This is the first budget of the National Conference led goverment in J&K and a first budget to be presented in the assembly since 2018.

Earlier this month, the Union government proposed budget allocation of ₹41,000 cr to J&K for 2025-26, around ₹1,000 cr down from ₹42,278 cr for the current financial year. As per the Union home ministry, ₹9,326 cr has been separately allocated to the J&K Police. Since 2024-25, the J&K Police budget has been part of the Union budget.
