In the opening match of the ODI series, New Zealand posted 300 runs on the board, thanks to a resilient 119 from Daryl Mitchell. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Black Caps faced early pressure from the Indian seamers. However, Mitchell took control of the game, smashing the Indian spinners and pacing his innings perfectly. He reached his hundred in the 42nd over, ensuring his team crossed the 300-run mark before being bowled out in the final over. Washington Sundar was the pick of the Indian bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/50. Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh also picked up two wickets apiece. India’s top order will need to fire under the lights to chase down the 301-run target.
