Amid the fervor of West Bengal’s first phase polling on 152 assembly seats, a shocking assault on BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari has ignited a firestorm. Alleged TMC supporters roughed up the candidate in Kumarganj, prompting fiery responses from BJP brass.

Central Minister Sukanta Majumdar didn’t mince words. ‘Post-elections, we’ll gauge the stature of these TMC goons,’ he thundered in an IANS interaction. Detailing the attack, Majumdar said BJP had alerted the Election Commission immediately. ‘Some TMC thugs targeted our candidate; four arrests made so far. All culprits must be jailed,’ he demanded.

The disturbing footage, now viral, shows a lone cop protecting Adhikari amid the frenzy in a district known for tranquility. ‘No central paramilitary was present, yet EC acted swiftly with police intervention,’ Majumdar observed.

Fellow BJP MP Locket Chatterjee painted a contrasting picture of voter enthusiasm. ‘Voting is peaceful with people exercising their franchise boldly. This is the lotus wave we’ve awaited,’ she said optimistically. Addressing Murshidabad flare-ups, Chatterjee credited EC’s strict measures. ‘Rowdies will pay dearly; voters are already chasing them away.’

This brazen attack raises serious questions about poll security in TMC strongholds. As Bengal’s electoral battle rages, BJP leaders’ vows of post-poll reckoning could reshape the political landscape. With phases ahead, maintaining order remains paramount for a fair democratic process.
