Gujarat’s Diamond City, Surat, is gearing up for metro-powered commutes. Trial operations have commenced on the 8.5 km link from Dream City to Althan Tenament, a key segment of the ambitious 40.35 km Surat Metro network. With 38 stations planned—6.47 km underground—the project is designed to redefine urban transport.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s administration prioritizes cutting-edge infrastructure, and GMRC’s latest trial run exemplifies this commitment. Over 500 hours, engineers are scrutinizing every aspect from acceleration to safety protocols. Work on seven stations along this trial route is in final stages, paving the way for imminent passenger services.
Corridor-1 (Diamond Corridor): 21.6 km, connecting Sarthana to Dream City with 14 elevated and 6 underground stations. Corridor-2 (Textile Corridor): 18.7 km fully elevated from Bhesan to Saroli, featuring 18 stations. Depots at both ends ensure seamless logistics.
Traffic jams that plague Surat’s diamond hubs will soon be history. Direct connectivity to the Diamond Bourse will benefit 40,000-45,000 daily workers, enhancing productivity in the jewelry sector. Industry leader Jayanti Savalia noted, ‘This will streamline movement for thousands, easing urban congestion.’
Residents are thrilled. ‘Time saved means better lives,’ said Raj Patel. ‘It’s a proud moment for Surat’s swift development,’ echoed Roshan Chimna. As the metro network fast-tracks, expect reduced emissions, faster travel, and a thriving economy—Surat’s urban landscape is set for a green, efficient upgrade.
