In a landmark decision, Jharkhand’s government has paved the way for medical colleges in four key districts: Khunti, Giridih, Jamtara, and Dhanbad. These upgrades from sadar hospitals will cost Rs 1,249 crore, marking a significant step toward improving healthcare infrastructure.
The PPP framework ensures efficient funding: Rs 464.23 crore from the center, Rs 308.37 crore from the state, with private players footing the rest. Operations and maintenance for five years will require Rs 660.17 crore jointly.
Funding nuances vary: Dhanbad splits 30% each between center and state; Giridih and Jamtara have center at 40% and state up to 20%; Khunti is even at 40-40%. Budget specifics include Rs 428 crore for Giridih, Rs 352 crore apiece for Jamtara and Dhanbad, and Rs 117 crore for Khunti.
With Ernst & Young as transaction advisor, and specialized committees for oversight, the project is on firm ground. The education department will regulate fees. Khunti aims for completion in four years, the rest in five, backed by approved budgets through 2030-31.
This initiative not only expands medical seats but also enhances rural healthcare access, addressing long-standing gaps in Jharkhand’s medical landscape.
