Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a revolution in rural energy sector collections, with the ‘Vidyut Sakhi’ program amassing a staggering ₹3,227 crore under Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya’s guidance. This women-led initiative is redefining empowerment by turning self-help group members into key players in electricity bill recovery.
Born from a synergy between the Rural Livelihood Mission and power authorities, Vidyut Sakhi has become a beacon for financial self-reliance. The Deputy CM praised its role in enhancing women’s earnings and social standing, calling it a vital push for rural economies and gender equality.
Key stats reveal the scale: 1.40 crore-plus bills processed since inception, yielding ₹42 crore in commissions. With 15,413 women actively engaged, the OTS drive from late 2025 to early 2026 was a game-changer, netting ₹657 crore across three months. Districts like Saharanpur and Amethi led the charge, while individual heroes emerged.
Soni Dwivedi topped with ₹3.1 crore from Amethi, followed by Rampur’s Meher Jahan at ₹2.7 crore and Barabanki’s Rajshri Shukla with ₹2.3 crore. In total, 17.75 lakh bills settled and ₹8 crore commissions earned during OTS. Seventy women crossed the ₹1 crore mark individually.
