Muzaffarpur DIG Fires SI Suman Jha Over Gold Theft and Bribe Scandal

Bihar’s law enforcement took a firm stand against internal rot when Tirhut Range DIG Chandan Kushwaha terminated the services of corrupt Sub-Inspector Suman Jha. The officer from Vaishali’s Laalgunj thana was axed after probes revealed his role in siphoning off gold ornaments, silver items, and Rs 15 lakh cash from a crime scene, compounded by proven bribery.

Jha’s troubles began in Muzaffarpur’s Shivaipatti station. Local businessman Pawan Kumar alerted anti-corruption sleuths about Jha demanding kickbacks. Vigilance operatives staged a sting on September 4, 2024, nabbing Jha with Rs 11,000 in bribe money. Case number 08/24 was registered, followed by departmental proceedings under case 39/24.

Post-bail transfer to Vaishali didn’t end scrutiny. In January, a dacoity probe raid uncovered loot worth crores, but key valuables disappeared. Jha joined the SHO, drivers, and guard in the FIR for misappropriation. While others faced suspension, Jha underwent a separate rigorous review led by SDPO Eastern-2 Manoj Singh.

On March 7, 2026, DIG Kushwaha endorsed the inquiry report, deeming Jha unfit for duty. This high-profile dismissal highlights Bihar Police’s renewed vigor in purging corrupt elements. As public outrage over graft grows, such actions could reshape the force’s image, promising cleaner policing ahead.
