On the landmark 200th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, a towering figure in India’s social reform movement, top BJP leaders invoked his ideals to affirm the government’s commitment to equality and empowerment. Celebrated on Saturday, the occasion saw Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Home Minister Amit Shah, and various chief ministers pay glowing tributes via social media, linking Phule’s legacy directly to modern initiatives.
In a poignant X post, Om Birla portrayed Phule as the ‘revolutionary sun’ who weaponized education against societal vices. He credited Phule with empowering the marginalized, women, and challenging caste barriers through a mass awakening that redefined Indian thought. Birla stressed the ongoing inspiration from Phule’s blueprint for a dignified, just society.
Amit Shah’s tribute focused on Phule’s revolutionary approach to education as a reform catalyst. ‘He pioneered women’s education and established Satyashodhak Samaj for equality and justice,’ Shah noted, bowing in respect on this special day.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan drew a direct parallel, observing that Phule’s focus on education and equity resonates in the Modi era’s ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ and ‘Antyodaya’ mantra. ‘I offer millions of salutations on his jayanti,’ Chouhan wrote.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized societal progress through universal access to education and dignity, crediting Phule’s efforts for lighting up countless lives. Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami joined in, with Dhami calling Phule’s life a beacon for the upliftment of the underprivileged.
Dhami’s post lauded Phule as the forefront advocate for women’s education and social parity, vowing to draw eternal inspiration from his work. This collective remembrance not only honors a historical giant but also positions his philosophy as a cornerstone of India’s current developmental narrative, blending historical reverence with policy alignment for a more equitable future.
