Following the death of a young man who fell into an uncovered drain in Lucknow during heavy rains, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has initiated a series of actions. A junior engineer has been suspended, and a show cause notice has been issued to an assistant engineer. The government has also announced a compensation package of Rs 9 lakh for the victim’s family, with Rs 5 lakh coming from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 4 lakh from the Disaster Relief Fund. Furthermore, an FIR has been filed against the construction agency responsible for the uncovered drain, emphasizing the government’s commitment to accountability and preventing future incidents. The victim, a daily wage worker, reportedly fell into the open drain due to waterlogging while returning home after work. The body was recovered from the junction of the Gomti River and a drain after a search operation.
