The CBI has once again demonstrated its resolve against corruption by arresting a junior assistant from Jammu’s PHE department. The employee allegedly demanded Rs 4,500 from a pension seeker in exchange for clearing his pending case. Instead of cash, the accused provided a QR code for the payment, which was later used as evidence during the trap operation. Acting swiftly on the complaint, CBI sleuths registered an FIR on Sunday and caught the accused accepting the bribe on the spot. Formal arrest followed on Monday. The agency is now probing whether this incident is part of a larger pattern of corruption within the department. The case underscores how even small bribes can derail the timely delivery of essential services like pensions. It also reflects the CBI’s adaptability in dealing with new methods of bribe collection through digital platforms.
