On March 22, World Water Day prompted a chorus of appeals from India’s political heavyweights, all stressing the urgent need to conserve water. Posting on X, leaders from Parliament to state capitals renewed vows to protect this life-sustaining resource amid escalating shortages.
Leading the charge, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged, ‘Let’s grasp water’s real significance today and swear to preserve it. No drop should be squandered—conservation is our duty and legacy to posterity.’
Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari offered actionable wisdom: ‘Pledge to store water power this World Water Day. Direct running streams productively, halt them strategically, and enable stagnant pools to recharge the soil.’
BJP leader and Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary tied it to flagship programs: ‘If there’s water, there’s a future! PM Modi’s Jal Jeevan Mission delivers pure water to homes under ‘Secure Water, Safe Tomorrow.’ On this day, commit to conservation, prudent usage, and securing it for our children.’
From Lucknow, UP CM Yogi Adityanath messaged, ‘Best wishes to Uttar Pradesh on World Water Day. Conserving each droplet is our ethical imperative. Pledge to protect water assets and honor nature’s call.’
Haryana’s Nayab Singh Saini added, ‘Greetings to the state on this occasion. Unite in a strong pledge for water saving, ensuring its availability for tomorrow’s world.’
In Bhopal, MP CM Mohan Yadav declared, ‘Water ensures tomorrow—it’s life itself. This divine gift underpins all beings. Value every drop and vow eternal involvement in its protection.’
Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma was direct: ‘Today, promise no water wastage; instead, preserve it for future heirs.’
This synchronized outreach highlights water’s primacy in India’s development agenda. With 600 million facing high to extreme water stress per NITI Aayog, initiatives like Atal Bhujal Yojana complement these calls. Leaders’ visibility on X amplifies reach, potentially mobilizing millions. Long-term, integrating tech like smart meters and community ponds could amplify impact, fostering a water-secure India.
