The no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla continues to stir heated debates in New Delhi. Congress leader Imran Masood has gone on record, criticizing Birla for not fulfilling his responsibilities, calling it detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
Speaking candidly, Masood remarked, ‘What’s unfolding in the House is tarnishing the Speaker’s prestige. As protector of proceedings, he must adhere to time-honored norms, yet we’re seeing the opposite.’
He advocated for inclusive national discourse. ‘Development requires everyone’s input,’ Masood emphasized. ‘Sidetracking genuine concerns to mask shortcomings isn’t the way. The current parliamentary mess harms India’s future.’
On General Naravane’s controversial memoir, Masood lamented the lack of focus. ‘Parliament should dissect its revelations, but the government diverts with distractions. The real issue is the content—examine it thoroughly after reading. BJP’s constant misguidance has even led to a book ban.’
Masood didn’t hold back on the upcoming cricket clash with Pakistan. ‘I’m dead against it! Pakistan deserves condemnation post-Pulwama. That Dubai match after the attack was a disgrace. Boycott all games with them since then.’
These pointed criticisms reflect broader frustrations among opposition ranks, signaling calls for Speaker accountability and focused legislative priorities amid rising political polarization.
